For the inaugural celebration of “Rocky Day” on December 3rd, Sylvester Stallone, the legendary actor synonymous with the iconic film ‘Rocky’, made a memorable appearance in Philadelphia. The 77-year-old star graced the grand opening event of the Rocky Shop at Parkway Visitor Center Outpost.
The shop is located near the renowned Rocky statue and the iconic Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Stallone’s presence at this significant occasion marks the day that will be celebrated in Philadelphia every year moving forward.

The story behind the origin of ‘Rocky Day’
In a nostalgic tribute nearly five decades after the 1976 Oscar-winning sports film ‘Rocky’ captured the hearts of audiences, Sylvester Stallone returned to the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art. This visit marked a significant moment, as it coincided with Philly’s inaugural Rocky Day. A newly established annual city holiday was observed on the same day that ‘Rocky’ was originally released to U.S. audiences.

In the cinematic landscape of 1976, Sylvester Stallone portrayed the ultimate underdog, Rocky Balboa, a down-and-out boxer who gets a shot at the title. The now iconic character from South Philly embarks on a monumental journey, facing off against Apollo Creed, the world heavyweight title.

On December 3rd, Stallone stood on the steps in front of the museum and talked about how much they meant to him. He thanked his fans for always being supportive of him and his endeavors. Also, he talked about how he still feels like a child when he looks at the incredible crowd and places in Philadelphia.

Stallone said, “When I come to Philly and stand on the steps, it touches my soul like it did when I was a child. This is a very special place in a very special city… Believe me, there’s no other place like it in the world!” So, ‘Sly’ had a great day where he relived his past and the time he made his debut in the film industry through ‘Rocky’.
