Former UFC fighter Darren Till didn’t think about joining a rival MMA promotion after his departure from Dana White‘s promotion. Instead, the Scouser decided to hop into the boxing scene, earning a match against former WBC middleweight champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. However, that fight did not happen and Till ended up making his boxing debut in a less prominent card.
The fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was a pretty big deal for Darren Till to have for his first boxing match. After all, he is a second-generation boxer, with his father having been a former 3-weight world champion. Also, the fight was taking place on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. But what led to the fight getting scrapped? Well, motivation seems to be a key factor in this case.

December 2022 was the last time Darren Till competed in a UFC fight or any other fight for that matter. Thereafter, ‘The Gorilla’ totally immersed himself in boxing. But then the problematic update about Mike Tyson popped up – his health problems – which led to the event getting postponed, adding more problems for Till, who had been preparing and training for the better part of the last two years.
“I spoke to my coach yesterday and was like, ‘Mate, how much more motivation to stay in the gym? Like, I’ve been in the gym 18 months now literally just working on the craft of boxing,” a disgruntled Daren Till told talkSPORT. Motivation is the only thing the former UFC star lacks at that point in time because he was seriously looking forward to fighting under a big name like Tyson because of the big-money opportunity that it presents.
“One of the biggest cards in the last decade. Obviously, all the motivation was there and everything, and just woke up one day and I read the news like all of you,” Darren Till added. Tired of waiting on the sidelines after the opportunity to debut against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fell apart, the 31-year-old decided to open his account in boxing in Dubai in a card filled up by social media influencers at Social Knockouts 3.
Meanwhile, Jake Paul did find a replacement for Mike Tyson in the form of BKFC star Mike Perry, with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the card, but there’s no Darren Till. Why? Because another former UFC fighter claimed that spot.

That prompted another fighter to step in, and if some fans, probably because they could be living under a rock, can’t guess who that is, it’s former UFC middleweight fighter, Uriah Hall. Yes, the same Uriah Hall, whose last UFC last took place in the UFC in 2022, stepped in on to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Meanwhile, Darren Till has maintained that if the Tyson Fight happens in November, he could be fighting on the card.
