Sugar Ray Robinson is considered to be the greatest of all time by many boxing purists. Many professional boxers across generations look up to Robinson. His achievements inside the ring are something to behold. Though, he was not a fan of his impressions and especially when Multi-Millionaire Comedian, Tommy Davidson imitated the legendary boxer in front of him.
Davidson is a very popular American comedian and is in the public limelight for many decades. The comedian is known for his accurate imitation of celebrities which is entertaining to the public. On a recent episode of the “Hotboxin with Mike Tyson” podcast, the comedian recalled the time he imitated Robinson in front of him but the legendary boxer was not pleased with it.

On a recent episode of Tyson’s podcast, the renowned comedian revealed the interaction he had with Sugar Ray Robinson after the imitation. Robinson did not like his impression which left Davidson intimidated and bewildered.
In the podcast, the comedian states, “I did that impression in front of him one time. I was in Queen’s New York and you forget he knocks people out for a living. I do his impression and He looked at me for a couple of seconds.”
Though, Davidson can understand the sentiments and holds nothing but respect for one of the greatest fighters to ever grace the sport. He adds, “I just admire you [Robinson] as a fighter because none of us can do that. And gladiator, the gladiator himself.”

Muhammad Ali is an icon. Many consider him the greatest of all time. However, he considers Robinson his “Idol” and refers to him the as best to ever do it. In a resurfaced video, Ali states, “Sugar Ray Robinson, he’s still my idol. If anyone is ever greater than me it’s Sugar Ray Robinson”.

The debate of who is the greatest of all time is highly subjective. It varies from individual to individual. However, Ali giving Robinson his due shows how good the late boxer must have been.
