Sunny Edwards is regarded as one of the best flyweights in the sport. He has held the IBF flyweight title since 2021. Edwards doesn’t shy away from sharing his opinions on social media. And it is safe to say that he is good with words. However, recently, Edwards’ tweet did not sit well with the fans. And he experienced backlash from his fans worldwide. He last fought in 2022 and holds an undefeated professional record. It should be noted that boxing runs in his family, as he is the younger brother of world champion Charlie Edwards.
Sunny Edwards tweeted, calling out fellow flyweight Jesse Rodriguez ahead of his fight. And, as thrilling and exciting as the call-out was supposed to be, it attracted a backlash. With his tweet, Edwards drew the attention of Rodriguez’s coach, who was joined by many fans in giving a reality check to the British flyweight champion.
Edwards took to Twitter and shared a clip from a press conference. In the clip, Rodriguez was seen talking about making the unified title fights happen and giving the fans what they want. Rodriguez did not call out names or talk about a particular boxer. But it seems like Edwards didn’t want to let it slide.

The 27-year-old flyweight shared the clip and wrote, “My name must be hard to say in some corners of boxing,” as Rodriguez did not call out any names. However, Edwards had boxing fans slamming him for having a pompous idea of himself. And this was not the first time Edwards was slammed over something.
‘Bam’ Rodriguez will face Cristian Gonzalez for the vacant WBO world flyweight title on April 8. And, the call-out came ahead of this fight. It would be interesting to see if this matchup ever comes to fruition and whether the duo gets to settle their unsolicited beef.
