Andre Ward and Gennady Golovkin recently engaged in a colossal verbal spat on social media. The two boxing biggies were once rumored to fight, but a contest between them never materialized. Also, not many knew the actual reason behind this fight not happening.

But, in Ward’s and Golovkin’s banter, fans might get an idea of the entire matter.

Firstly, a fan asked Ward on Twitter, “Is there a fight that you wanted, that didn’t happen before you retired..??”

To which Ward responded, “Froch, rematch in the UK; golovkin, he turned it down in less than 5 min, A. Joshua, But I retired)”

Looking at this, ‘GGG’ sneaked into the picture to hit at Ward. He wrote, “Andre, stop lying to the fans. Your team made the offer AFTER I announced the fight with Lemieux and sold out MSG. You are still angry since that you never sold tickets like me. HBO knew you used the offer for publicity to move to 175. Happy Birthday”

Ward came up once again to hit at rival Golovkin in another tweet. He added, “I have receipts stop playing.”

The banter between the two men was unexpected and nobody would have expected ‘GGG’ to lash out at Ward in this manner.

‘S.O.G’ hung up his gloves in 2017 with a win over Sergey Kovalev. He retired with an immaculate track record of 32 wins. However, his ultimate aspiration was to confront Golovkin and a few more hotshots.

The two men didn’t face each other back when everyone expected them to. However, they didn’t leave any stones unturned in their clash on Twitter.

In the coming time, both of them can be expected to go even hard against each other. That said, the hardcore boxing lovers might get to see more of this back and forth in the next few days.
