Did Jake Paul really prove himself, or was it just a lucky win against a legend?

Mike Tyson made us think it would be war. Full credit to him, he tried. Alas, father time waits for no one. The once Baddest Man on the Plant failed to turn back the clock as he couldn’t unload heavy blows and give Jake Paul a taste of his power. Jake Paul, as many had expected, kept his distance, played it cool, and didn’t allow Iron Mike to unload power punches on him. In the end, the only victor in the entire escapade was the ‘Problem Child’.

Tyson, 58, and Paul, 27, went the distance, as they tried to give fans an entertaining bout. But ‘Iron Mike’ left the arena with a loss, as his record fell to 50-7. Paul swept the judges’ scorecard, as the scores read 80-72, 79-73 x2 in his favor. Despite the significant age gap, Tyson, at 58, showcased flashes of his legendary skill, using his experience and powerful combinations to control key moments in the bout. Jake Paul, on the other hand, relied on his youth, stamina, and unorthodox style to keep the fight competitive.

Tyson started the fight strongly, as he threw jabs, whereas Paul was quick on his feet, circling around and trying to gas out the former world champion. Both fighters had their moments: Tyson landed a series of body shots and uppercuts reminiscent of his prime, while Paul surprised many with his resilience and ability to absorb punishment while countering effectively. However, the excessive clinching from Jake Paul disrupted the fight’s action. The tactic seemed to have worked, as Tyson appeared out of stamina in the third round itself, as he struggled to land his punches and come forward.

Paul slowly found his confidence and threw jabs as he cruised the fight. He kept his distance and kept on tagging Tyson without having to take the risk of closing the distance. Tyson’s legs remained planted, and without much movement on the feet, his action remained limited, and he fell off to a decision loss.

Despite these signs of decline, Tyson’s ring IQ and ability to adapt kept him competitive throughout the bout. However, the fight was a reminder that even legends are not immune to the passage of time, and Tyson’s performance reflected a fighter relying more on experience than physical prowess. Fans and pros turned to their social media handles and expressed their opinions of the fight. Some were quite strong.

Gervonta Davis turned to his Instagram handle to slam Jake Paul for the fiasco. He stated in the caption, “To the bozo that shared the ring w Mike..you a whole bozo for this and you didn’t get the job done [sh*t emoji] head..” In addition, he lauded Tyson and celebrated him. He wrote in another story, “You’ll forever be a legend..rather you like it or not and it will never be another one! And I understand you so well..all this sh*t don’t mean nothing.”

Shakur Stevenson appreciated Paul for not attempting to knock out Tyson. He wrote, “Look like Jake got a good heart he not gone try glad he’s not trying to knock my boy out.” Paul even bowed to Tyson in the dying second of the last round to pay respect to the former heavyweight champion.

Tony Bellew called for a boycott of Paul and campaigned not to tune in for his fight until he fought someone healthy. He said, “WE are all to blame for this man!! We are all talking and watching! We have to stop this fool! Don’t tune into him until he fights someone who is fit healthy and not a grandfather! Any proper boxing people helping Paul need to look at themselves ffs!! This is just sad 😔.” Paul has received scathing criticism for his choice of opponents, as he has largely fought fighters in their twilight days.

Jamal Herring also tried to play down the credentials of Paul and tried to make sense of his boxing aspirations. He penned, “Yo… we gotta stop the bullsh*t. He’s fighting a 58 year old man, can’t put him down. Weighs around 230lbs. Wants to fight a super middleweight Canelo. Says he’s a serious contender. I’m just enjoying the entertainment value at this point 😂 Jake can sell anything!” Paul and Tyson sold out the arena, as they helped register gate revenue of $17 million and went past the commercial distribution location sales record of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor.

Chris Mannix explained how the fight went down the exact route he envisioned it to go. He noted, “That was exactly how I thought that fight would play out. You were delusional if you thought anything else.” Tyson’s health concerns, such as his recent ulcer flare-up, age, and stamina, always remained a worrying sign for some fans. The fight proved them right.

Andre Berto also voiced those worrisome factors, as he announced, “Im happy that sh*t is over my nerves couldn’t handle it for my hero Mike. Im glad Jake had enough respect not go crazy and really try to knock Mike out tonight. “Iron” Mike Tyson is damn near 60 year. Hope u can see that, now leave that man alone lol.” Tyson, however, didn’t deny fighting one more time, as he engaged with Logan Paul for an exchange. But there were rumors of him fighting with Lennox Lewis in an exhibition fight.

Lastly, Terence Crawford expressed his love for Tyson but also spilled some harsh words for him. He declared, “I love Mike Tyson, but they giving him too much credit. He looked like trash, to train that long and only throw 97 punches the whole fight is crazy. I’m just glad he didn’t get hurt out there.” Tyson looked out of breath in the fight but didn’t quit. Instead, he went the distance, which he would consider a win for himself.
