Steven Nelson‘s life has been anything but easy. The American boxer’s professional career has been tumultuous, with initial fame soon followed by lows, and he is now again getting back to enjoying boxing. When he went through the ropes for the first time this year against Marcos Vazquez on August 3, he stood tall and showcased his skill set and the power he is best known for by knocking out his opponent in the fifth round. But it seems there is more to their encounter.
Nelson, 36, returned to the squared circle after a year-long layoff against Vazquez, 34, but the VADA has now confirmed in its findings that the latter has tested positive for PED. The VADA, in its letter, pointed out that it detected recombinant EPO in Vazquez’s urine sample.
When this news reached Nelson, 20-0, he was quick to turn to his X handle and bash his opponent. In addition, he also thanked the doping agency for their work in “exposing” the athletes. ‘So Cold’ wrote, “My opponent was cheating and still got his a** beat… shout out to VADA for continually exposing these dirty athletes 🚫💉💊🚫.”

However, the result would not affect Nelson’s plans, as he also remains committed to his cause of dedicating his time as executive director of the B&B Sports Academy. The Omaha native, who is a close friend of Terence Crawford, is trying to mold a new generation of boxers so that he can improve their lives. Notably, ‘Bud’ and his trainer, Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, founded this academy, which continues to foster the community and give the youth hope.
What’s more? Nelson has enjoyed his time as a boxer ever since making a return to the boxing ring after a split with Top Rank and recovering from injuries that hampered his career post-2020. The fans are not sure when he will fight next. Most certainly, it will be under Crawford, 36, undercard, as they go back to their childhood days, and Nelson has taken a liking to fighting on the night as his childhood friend.

The super middleweight fighter once recalled their first meeting and how he had undermined Crawford’s power before it. He narrated how the two fought in a sparring session when Crawford made sure to make his power known. Nelson said, “He came up to me and said, ‘You don’t think I punch hard? Let me hit your arm.’ I was like, alright. He kind of frogged me in my arm, and it made my arm go numb. I was like, ‘Damn, he does hit hard’.”
