Larry Holmes, in an interview, once answered Mike Tyson‘s probable career, had he fought in the earlier days of heavyweight boxing that still featured the likes of Foreman and Ali. Despite beating Holmes in 1988, Tyson acknowledged that he never fought the same Holmes who had fought Ali. However, Holmes, who suffered a 4th-round TKO loss against Mike, felt the likes of Frazier, Ali, and Foreman would definitely beat Tyson in boxing.

“I ain’t knocking Mike Tyson. No. Joe Frazier would beat him up at his own style. Joe liked guys like that. Ali – slap him all day long with the jab. Kenny Norton – too strong. George Foreman – two seconds,” said Larry Holmes. Tyson had later acknowledged that neither Holmes had enough time to prepare for him nor did promoter Don King give him the opportunity.

“If I had mercy on him, he may have knocked my a*s out. He didn’t have enough time to prepare when he fought me. Don didn’t give him the opportunity,” said Tyson about Larry. Yet, what if prime Mike Tyson faced a prime Larry Holmes in the ring? Some fans felt Tyson would defeat Larry. Although Tyson admitted never fighting the prime Larry, fans felt Holmes was upset regarding the TKO loss of 1988 at the Convention Center, Atlantic City.

Meanwhile, one cautioned holmes by saying, “Don’t forget how fast Tyson was in his prime and power and trained to hit where it hurts and not get hit.”
