Stevie Morgan turned professional just 2 years ago in 2022, and now with a record of 14-1, she is going to go up against one of the best boxers in the world, Amanda Serrano. She, however, believes, “It is really like a real-life Rocky-Apollo Creed movie.” Morgan says that it is her opportunity to shine, and she is ready to prove her mettle. Popularly known as ‘Sledgehammer’ in the boxing community, Stevie Morgan is a native of Tampa, Florida. Given that Morgan will be fighting in her hometown in Tampa this Saturday, she may have a minor advantage over Serrano as most of the crowd will be rooting for her and not the champion. However, this is like a dream come true for her to go against ‘The Real Deal’, and luckily it is happening in her hometown, so it’s a big moment for the 35-year-old fighter.
Stevie Morgan also has a son named Jourdan. Morgan had a lot of proud moments in her life, but she says that her proudest moment was when she gave birth to Jourdan. Morgan trains at the Flowers Boxing Lab, a converted warehouse in New Port Richey. Her trainer Monyette Flowers praised her boxer and stated, “She(Amanda Serrano) is going to get a whole lot more than she was expecting with this fight.”
Serrano was supposed to fight Katie Taylor in a rematch bout on July 20th. However, as the match has been rescheduled for November, Serrano decided to use this opportunity to take on Morgan as a prep for her Super lightweight return against Taylor. With reference to this, Flowers continued, “She’s ready for war. So when that fight happens, there’s going to be a piece of Serrano left in the ring, and a piece of Stevie will be left in that ring. You know, you walk in one way, you’re going to come out different. So I think it’s a very dangerous fight for Serrano before the Katie Taylor fight, for sure.”
Apart from her boxing career, the 35-year-old Gaither High alumnae had already achieved distinction as a local businesswoman. She was even praised for being a successful entrepreneur. Why did she then decide to box even though she had a great business? Let’s find out.
