In a grueling contest at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Teofimo Lopez defended his WBO and Ring Magazine super lightweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over Jamaine Ortiz. The judges scored it 117-111, 115-113, and 115-113. Transitioning to the fight details, neither boxer hit the canvas, and the sparse exchanges left fans disappointed.
The initial rounds were close, Lopez struggling to score due to Ortiz’s elusive style. Lopez, urged by his corner, increased aggression in the fourth, connecting with a sharp right hand. Ortiz’s movement became less effective, prompting Lopez to implore him to engage during the sixth. An accidental clash caused a cut over Ortiz’s left eye in the seventh, but the fight failed to escalate into a thrilling exchange, resulting in continuous boos from the audience.
The Takeover dominated the championship rounds, suggesting judges penalized Ortiz for evading contact. As the scorecard for the fight made its way into social media, the fans didn’t appear too impressed about it. Boxing reporter Mike Coppinger, sharing an image of the scorecards, wrote, “Teofimo Lopez swept the final three rounds on all three cards to pull out the win”. But what did the fans think about the scorecard?

Fans support Teofimo Lopez but slam the judges
In a recent boxing match between Teofimo Lopez and Jamaine Ortiz, the judges’ scorecard, particularly the 117-101 decision, sparked intense debates among fans. One fan argued, “Ortiz, like Teo, didn’t do much; equally horrible. Ortiz would not engage, and Lopez couldn’t cut off the ring. Gotta do more to take the champion’s belt, no robbery… Teo clear winner.”
Ortiz like Teo didn’t do much, equally horrible. Why? Because Ortiz would not engage and Lopez couldn’t cut off the ring. Gotta do more to take the champion’s belt, no robbery…Teo clear winner.

Another fan criticized Ortiz’s tactics throughout the fight. According to them, even if the judges were to score the last three rounds correctly, Ortiz would have still lost the fight. He wrote, “I really thought Ortiz needed to GO! Them last 3, but If Ortiz did more in those last 3Rds, he loses them Rds even worse maybe even KO’d…. But them last 3, Ortiz corner, ‘keep ‘boxing’ your doing brilliant’ aka ‘you Shook, keep running like a bish’.”

Meanwhile, a fan shared his agreement with the result, writing, “Ortiz ran ran during the championship rounds. If dude showed heart in em he would’ve won.”

Someone else slammed the one judge for scoring the fight 111-117 in favor of Lopez, which according to them was far-fetched. They stated, “The 105-103 scores cards are fine but the 117-101 is just out of place. Fight was horrible but Teo didn’t score the fight it is not his fault.”

Another fan, too, took the chance to slam a judge, Steve Weisfeld, for scoring the fight incorrectly. He criticized, “Steve Weisfeld, go fishing – boxing don’t need you at all.”
