Steve Cunningham is one true veteran in the sport of boxing. In his prolonged boxing career, Cunningham has transitioned between the cruiserweight and heavyweight roster. Also, the former boxer has even shared the ring with the current WBC heavyweight champ, Tyson Fury in 2013.
In this fight, ‘USS’ staggered everyone by putting Fury onto the canvas. Despite that, the American boxer couldn’t sustain the momentum and he ended up losing this bout.
In his entire boxing career, Cunningham hasn’t quite stayed in the limelight. Moreover, in all of his fights, he etched the underdog status and showcased his astonishing abilities against the best of contenders.

‘USS’ debuted in the sport in 2000 against fellow debutant Norman Jones. Here, Cunningham claimed a split decision win and never looked back. Additionally, he remained undefeated in his boxing run for the first six years, but his first professional ‘L’ came in when he fought for the IBF cruiserweight title. Cunningham boxed his heart out, yet he ended up on the losing vertical against Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.
A year later, he got a magnificent chance to rematch and settle the scores with Wlodarczyk. In that rematch, Cunningham terrified his rival and claimed the IBF cruiserweight title. However, ‘USS’ couldn’t retain the belt for long and lost it in 2008 to Tomasz Adamek, but he again won the IBF cruiserweight belt in 2010 and successfully defended it once.
Can Steve Cunningham get his boxing stint back on track?
After a career full of trials, Cunningham moved out of the game after losing to Andrew Tabiti in 2017. Now, after a four-year hiatus, the 44-year-old is hungry to lace up the boxing gloves professionally.
