When we speak of boxing, every detail matters, even the wraps on the fists. Recently, a controversy has been brewing around this, catching the attention of boxing enthusiasts worldwide. The stage is set for the much-anticipated title fight between Naoya Inoue and Stephen Fulton. However, the limelight seems to have drifted from the ring to the gloves.

The gloves, a crucial part of a boxer’s armor, have become the center of a heated debate. In a surprising move, Stephen Fulton inspected Inoue’s gloves himself. This decision comes after a controversy stirred up in the boxing community.

Stephen Fulton checks Inoue’s gloves

Stephen Fulton’s decision to inspect Inoue’s gloves is not arbitrary. It’s a calculated move, a response to the allegations made by Fulton’s trainer, Wahid Rahim. Rahim has accused Inoue of using layers of tape in his wraps, forming what he calls a ‘cast’. This, according to Rahim, is a violation of the rules and raises safety concerns for the fighters.

Rahim has been vocal about his concerns, stating, “In previous fights, Inoue and his team have wrapped his hands with an excessive amount of tape, and then applied more tape to the gauze which creates a cast. This is not an assumption. I have proof.”

Fulton’s inspection of Inoue’s gloves is a direct response to these allegations, a move to ensure fair play and safety in the upcoming fight. But Inoue has his own reasons for the way he does his wrap.

Inoue defends his hand-wrapping technique

While the controversy has added a layer of intrigue to the upcoming fight, it has also raised questions about the rules and regulations of boxing. The hand-wrapping process, often overlooked, has come under scrutiny. The controversy has also highlighted the differences in rules across different regions, with Inoue defending his hand-wrapping process by stating that he is following the local rules of Japan.

Inoue’s response to the allegations has been firm and straightforward. He tweeted, “Japan has its own local rules. Even in the US, there are local rules on each state, and the winding methods are different. Our fight will be held in Japan on 25th, so of course I will follow the Japanese rules. Don’t suck it up. Just Fight!”
