After a lifetime of facing some of the trickiest and toughest opponents, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has started taking it easy after his retirement. However, even retirement can’t keep him off the ring as he started fighting in exhibition matches actively. In fact, he plans on fighting four times this year. As of now, he has fought in six exhibition fights so far in total. His newest opponent is the grandson of the former New York crime family’s boss, John Gotti III.

Gotti holds Mayweather in high regard. Even though he called Mayweather his childhood idol, he still plans on coming to the ring with “bad intentions”. With just a day to go, the video of Mayweather – Gotti III weigh-in and final face-off went viral. Gotti appeared very calm as he promised fans that he and ‘Pretty Boy’ would bring a very entertaining fight.

When asked about how he plans to hit someone as elusive as the undefeated boxer, Gotti appeared confident and claimed that there will be a lot of surprises regarding his hand speed and power. The fans even started chanting “Gotti” at one point after he interjected Mayweather. ‘Money’, on the other hand, having played the role of the villain for so long, appeared unfazed by the crowd. He claimed that he doesn’t need to brag about his abilities, as he has already proven himself. However, he believes there is a need that “He [John Gotti] has to show what he can do.” Meanwhile, fans had a lot to say about the matchup, some of them even cautioned Mayweather to be careful.

“Even the mob want a payday”: Fans caution Floyd Mayweather

Fans had a lot to say to the former champion. However, some fans took the chance to warn him about his opponent just hours before the fight. One fan joked, “Even the mob want a payday they threatened the other options I bet gotti was the only one left.”

Another fan shared his surprise towards Mayweather’s opponent. He wrote, “This man Floyd fighting mob boss grand kids.” Meanwhile, one user couldn’t help but be captivated by the allure of a mob story. He wrote, “Who doesn’t love the mob story geez.” He claimed that he was rooting for Gotti “even though I know he’ll get whooped.”

Another user wrote, “Mayweather trying to get a quick payday fighting a guy related to a infamous gangster.” A user issued a warning to ‘Money’, urging him to “STAY AWAY FROM THE MOB.” He claimed that even though Gotti is not like his grandfather, “Those connections may still be there.”

The showdown ended in a notorious fashion, giving the audience a night to remember. The bout was called off by the referee after the fighters didn’t hold back their tongue. Reportedly, Gotti was hurling NSFW words at Mayweather, and the referee who had seen enough waved his hands signaling to ring the bell. An agitated Gotti continued to swing wild haymakers at his opponent even after the final bell. This led others from both their teams to jump in and create chaos in the ring.
