Following Canelo Alvarez‘s latest performance against John Ryder, the current unified welterweight champion of the world is of the view that the Mexican boxer should maintain his distance from both Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev. While Alvarez looked forward to facing Bivol in September at 175 lbs, Errol Spence Jr. felt the ‘Mexican Phenom’ shall face David Benavidez instead. In addition, Spence Jr. revealed that he would “like it” if he were to fight Canelo Alvarez himself.

Although he did not watch the whole Alvarez vs. Ryder fight, from what he has seen, Spence Jr. declared Canelo “did a’ight“. However, he also felt that Canelo’s power at 175 lbs would be ineffective. Hence, he advised Alvarez to “stay away from” Bivol and Beterbiev.

Spence Jr. feels Alvarez should “go back to 168 lbs”. In his opinion, the Mexican boxer would be “pushing it” if he tried to fight at 175 lbs. In his recent interview with ESNEWS, ‘The Truth’ thus said, “David Benavidez would be a good-a** fight. They gon’ be right there for each other. I think he should stay away from Dmitry Bivol, s***, he should stay away from Artur Beterbiev too. Go back to 168 lbs and handle your business. 175 lbs is pushing it.

In this connection, on being asked if he would like to fight Alvarez, Spence Jr. replied in the affirmative. According to him, Alvarez did alright against John Ryder, defending his undisputed status for the second time. Although ‘The Truth’ declared his focus to be not currently on Alvarez, he assured that he would “definitely like it” to face the Mexican fighter in the future. “He did a’ight for what I have seen. I’ve just seen [the] highlights, I didn’t see the fight. But yeah, I definitely like it. But right now, my focus is not on Canelo at all. He throws a lot of power punches,” added Errol Spence Jr.
