Former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.‘s most defining characteristic, his fierce competitiveness, is best exemplified by an intense 2013 sparring session against Floyd Mayweather Jr. There are times when two top fighters participate in behind the scene sessions to usually get in better shape. There is an unspoken rule that these sessions are only for working on skills and not for public scrutiny or gossip. Hence boxers keep hush about what takes place in such sessions.

Such has been the case with both Mayweather and Spence Jr. who have followed his rule. This is why ‘The Truth’ has been rather vague and cryptic about the exact details of the session. However, recently a boxer who witness what went down has come out with some surprising details about the event.

In a recent video uploaded by The Mayweather Channel, a fighter who was present at the scene of the encounter recalled how things got heated when the two locked horns during the sparring session. At the time the 23 years-old Spence sparred against Mayweather, 36 years old to help him prepare for his clash against Robert Guerrero. According to the witness, the session was certainly heated.

He claimed, “The sparring I’ll say this- it was the best I’ve ever seen and it got heated as well so, he done very good with Floyd wanted to move around.” Moreover, he also revealed that Spence wasn’t one to back down either and brought the challenge to Mayweather. Though he added “He done the best I’ve seen out of all of the years. And it took Floyd to break him, because Floyd is very smart, I always knew this. He works you out very well and it took Floyd a bit more time to work him out to be able to crack-crack the code.”

Furthermore, he claimed, “So that’s what I’m saying is Spence done so well with Floyd even though it was a spar but Crawford’s no better than Floyd was at that time.” Overall Spence managed to leave a lasting impression and even a compliment from the former champ.

The former welterweight champion’s devastating loss against Terence Crawford is very well known by now. He appeared to be severely outclassed by the new undisputed welterweight champion. Recently, Floyd Mayweather came out with some words of advice to ‘the Truth’. Notably, he has decided to move up in the weight division after the loss and Mayweather agrees.

According to Mayweather, “I want the best for Errol Spence. If I was training him or I was in his corner, I don’t think he should be fighting at 147 at all. I don’t even think he should be fighting at 154. I think he should be fighting at 160 or 168. That’s just my honest opinion.”
