When two fighters of top-level caliber face each other, fights can often go on till the end, which is no easy pick for a winner. Moreover, boxing has had its fair share of controversial judge decisions throughout its history. Often times fans, fighters, and experts find themselves questioning the outcome of a fight. There are various examples of such incidents like GGG vs. Canelo Alvarez I (2017), and Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield (1999).

A recent example could be Gervonta Davis vs Hector Luis Garcia’s scorecard. After the fight, when the scorecard came out, fans were enraged that Garcia was winning on the scorecard. However, he got knocked out and lost the match.

Recently, a situation where fans and experts have found themselves divided arose once again. Vasyl Lomachenko and Devin Haney are done with their anticipated bout. The bout went to the lengths with ‘The Matrix’ losing by unanimous decision. Lomachenko brought a hard fight for Devin Haney. He had come prepared to snatch the belts from the champion to become the unified champion himself. However, Haney managed to keep his record of (30, 0, 0, 15 K.O) intact. He wanted to beat Lomachenko, who previously was on the top of the pound-for-pound list. It seems that Lomachenko’s team is not so happy with the result of the fight. During the post-fight conference, Lomachenko’s manager made his dissatisfaction abundantly clear.

Devin Haney vs Vasyl Lomachenko: trainers call the result a “robbery”

It takes a lot to prepare for the fight, that’s why the loss hurts so much. In fact, after his loss, Lomachenko was seen crying, exasperated by his defeat. Incensed by the result of the close fight, Vasyl Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas went off during the post-fight conference.

Michael Benson uploaded the video on his Twitter. He said that he is going to ‘say it just like it is’. He accused judges to have stolen the victory from Lomachenko. Klimas said, “This is the biggest robbery in the middle of the day”.

He further added that “For other team, Christmas came in the summer, and we’re not gonna let it go”. He called the result ‘unjust’ and claimed that his team is going to protest the result, and he guaranteed that they will appeal the decision.

Klimas claimed that boxing needed someone to stand against these kinds of ‘unjust decisions’. He pointed out how hard fighters work in order to prepare for the fight. He said, “It’s unacceptable, and I guarantee we’re not gonna let it go, we’re gonna go all the way to the end to appeal”. Klimas claimed that even if they don’t win, which would most be the case, he just wants to stand against injustice.
