The Kazakh legend is 40 and going through the fading days of his career. This started the talks about his retirement. However, the IBF and WBA middleweight champ is convinced that he still enjoys the exchange inside the ring, which pushes him to continue further. He is coming out of a knockout victory against the Japanese pugilist Ryota Murata and is confident of putting forth a strong front against the former pound-for-pound Canelo Alvarez.

Ahead of his exciting matchup with the Mexican, GGG reflected on his boxing career after this bout. According to the oldest active world champion, the result of this bout will decide his next step.

Recently, Golovkin said in an interview with Boxingscene, “[Retirement] is a hard question. It’s hard to say. Every day can bring something new. Even if we just look ahead past this fight, we’ll see what opportunities come our way from the financial and attractiveness of a potential fight. I will make my decision based on the situation and when it’s a good time.”

Furthermore, he added, “It’s hard to make predictions. I’m in boxing because I enjoy it. When you make a decision to retire, it’s usually not based on just one reason. There are a number of reasons that eventually come into play. So far, I’m still in business.”
