Former undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford may get his wish granted, as talks of a fight with former undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez are heating up thanks to Saudi Boxing Chief Turki Alalshikh. However, ‘interim’ WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez may never get his dream fight against ‘Cinnamon.’

And he is not happy! You see, the 28-year-old ‘Mexican Monster’ is slated to square off against undefeated 11-0 David Morrell on February 1st at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, since his time in the super middleweight division, Benavidez has but one wish—which is to fight Canelo Alvarez.

Benavidez was even the WBC super middleweight mandatory for Canelo for over a year, but the sanctioning body refused to corner Canelo into fighting David Benavidez. When Canelo was pressed about the potential fight in March last year, he presented his outrageous demand to make the fight happen.

“If one promoter who I work with comes and offers me $150 million to $200 million, I’ll fight tomorrow. That’s the only reason I would fight with him because the only thing he brings to the table is 25 pounds,” Canelo said about fighting Benavidez. Matchroom Boxing honcho, Eddie Hearn, who has promoted Canelo in the past, has also revealed that he doesn’t see the fight happening.

“150 million? I know he takes less but I just don’t see that,” Hearn told Fight Hype. He also highlighted that David Benavidez has moved up in weight and doesn’t see him coming back to 168 pounds. However, the ‘Mexican Monster’ seems to be fed up with Canelo Alvarez denying him the opportunity to go toe-to-toe in the biggest fight of his career.

While appearing in an interview with ‘The Miami Hustle’ on YouTube, Benavidez could not hold back his frustration, as he described Canelo in two words—“f**king p**sy”. When pressed about the potential fight, highlighting whoever wins would be the “best Mexican boxer,” Benavidez said, “To be honest with you, I just feel like Canelo is a f**king p**sy. That’s just my opinion.”

Meanwhile, Benavidez seems to have harsher words for his upcoming opponent.

Benavidez added, “He is in for the hardest fight of his life. To be honest with you, I don’t think he is going to fight after this fight. He is probably going to retire.” David Benavidez sees this as a defining moment in his career. Morrell has been calling out Benavidez for years, but the latter believes he’s in for a rude awakening. “No one fights like me,” Benavidez said.

That said, it appears David Benavidez is not willing to show any mercy to either Canelo Alvarez or his upcoming fight. But there’s no denying that both fights are going to be tough for the 28-year-old. While Benavidez is set to showcase his dominance in the light heavyweight division with his upcoming fight, he may never get the same opportunity with Canelo. Do you agree with Benavidez? Do you think Canelo is ducking him?
