Last Saturday night, Skye Nicolson proved she deserves a title shot against Puerto Rico’s female boxing champion, Amanda Serrano. The 28-year-old Aussie dominated Sarah Mahfoud in their ten/two-minute round WBC featherweight title fight, securing an effortless unanimous decision victory. However, what she said after the fight may result in her ascending to undisputed status.

The WBC featherweight champion has never shied away from voicing her desire to take on the best in the division. For Nicolson, ‘The Real Deal’ Serrano perfectly fits the bill. However, Serrano, not so long ago, had made it clear that one should agree to twelve/three-minute rounds to enter the ring against her. So, in hot pursuit of Serrano’s belts, Nicolson agreed to the terms during Saturday’s post-fight interview.

Skye Nicolson thinks Serrano’s twelve/three-minute round decision is funny

Speaking to the Australian southpaw, the representative from DAZN Boxing quickly probed Nicolson about her thoughts on when the fight could happen. Nicholson quickly responded, “I am ready when she is ready. Obviously, I want the belt, so it’s nothing personal, Amanda, but I am ready when you are.”

It’s worth mentioning that WBC doesn’t support Serrano’s demand for twelve/three-minute rounds, which is why Serrano even relinquished the title recently. So, when the reporter brought up Serrano’s twelve/three-minute demand, Nicolson said, “I find it funny that she waited till I was her mandatory to decide that’s what she wanted to do.”

However, that didn’t phase her out of sending out the challenge to Serrano. Claiming she respects WBC’s rules, Nicolson announced, “If the only way to fight Amanda Serrano is through 12×3 minute rounds, talk to my team, [and] we will make it happen.” Nicolson’ picking up the vacant WBC title increases her chances of fighting Serrano.

But the WBC still doesn’t allow twelve/three-minute rounds in female boxing. So, Serrano won’t be able to contest Nicolson’s WBC title. What’s more, this was the second time Nicolson has called out the former undisputed queen.

Nicolson wants to “prove that I’m worthy” to Amanda Serrano

In November last year, Skye Nicolson appeared in an interview with Ariel Helwani of MMA Hour, where she expressed her long-standing desire to fight the best in her division. “Obviously, I want the Serrano fight. She’s the champion in my division. I want to be [a] world champion. I want to prove to the world that I’m the best, and I want to do that by beating the best,” said Nicolson.

She went on to suggest that she wasn’t trying to disrespect Serrano by calling her out. Instead, “I want to fight the best. That’s why I’m calling her out,” Skye Nicolson said. She further added, “I want to show my levels. I want to prove that I’m worthy. That’s why I call her out.”

While it’s unclear whether Amanda Serrano would graciously accept the challenge, the main question is: will Serrano risk her titles when she stands to gain nothing from the fight?
