Skye Brittany Nicolson made a clean sweep on July 13th as she won every round against her opponent, Dyana Vargas. It was Nicolson’s first title defense of her WBC featherweight belt, and she retained it successfully. She was the betting favorite, as her dominant reign until now has made her one of the most popular female boxers today. But one fan made the mistake of betting against her, and unfortunately, he didn’t earn a penny. Not only that, he also lost what he invested in the wager.
The fan posted a screenshot of his failed wager on X, which caught the attention of the Australian boxer. Nicolson is obviously happy and proud of her first title defense, and she took this opportunity to slam the fan who chose to bet against her.

The Australian featherweight faced Dyana Vargas of the Dominican Republic on the undercard of Jaron Ennis vs. David Avanesyan. Fans flocked to Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center to watch the highly anticipated bouts on the bill. Returning to the wager, the fan posted a picture of his gamble, which revealed he had placed a $50 bet on the challenger Vargas. As the Dominican Republic boxer was the underdog with a betting odd of +2400, a $50 bet would have brought him a payout of $1,250. That is if Dyana Vargas had won, which she didn’t. However, Nicolson was most likely irked by what the fan wrote while posting his wager. He wrote, “Idk about Skye Nicolson tonight. This ain’t Australia.”

As Nicolson won the fight, the fan had to lose his $50 as well. Nicolson, therefore, clapped back at the fan and wrote, “Oop thats $50 you’ll never get back silly goose.” Although it was a silly bet with a long shot, that is how the game works. The greater the risk, the greater the reward. Who would have thought that Buster Douglas could overcome Mike Tyson in 1990? But it did happen, didn’t it?
Talking about Mike Tyson, this fight event broke Tyson’s previous record of selling 10,000 seats in Philly and sold more than 13,000 seats. Meanwhile, following her victory over Vargas, the Australian boxer is now eyeing a big fight ahead.

Skye Nicolson eyeing the biggest fight of her career
The 28-year-old has long been calling out the unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano for a potential bout. However, the fight never reached its fruition. Serrano had said in an interview, “I don’t do call-outs.” Following her win over Vargas, the undefeated southpaw had something to say about Serrano’s remarks. Nicolson stated, “I found it quite funny. I don’t even think she said it’s not for her. And she doesn’t accept call-outs, she just completely dismissed the question altogether. It’s like she can’t even say my name. It’s quite funny. You kind of have to laugh at it a little bit.”
The WBC featherweight champion also stated that she thinks she is the world’s finest featherweight. Nicolson stated that she only wants to establish her own worth and doesn’t mean to be disrespectful. She concluded by saying, “I do not think the fight happens ever!” If the clash happens, Nicolson would get a chance to get her hands on Serrano’s IBF, WBA, and WBO belts.
