Skye Nicolson is a blunt and skilled champion, but she knows how to come to the rescue whenever someone is in need. She is doing it again when one of her fans is in dire need of financial help to triumph over a brain tumor in a second battle. The Australian boxer has extended her hand to help spread the word for Eamonn Taaffe, who continues to fight the tumor after being involved in a tussle that has been going on for 7 years now.

Taaffe, 37, suffered from a heavy seizure in 2017, which, when diagnosed, turned out to be a repercussion of a brain tumor. Despite having his first surgery, the initial assumption of complete removal of the tumor didn’t last long. After his discharge, he continued his rehab. It was only after months of hard work that he could walk again and play football with his son, Fionn. However, Taaffe’s left arm and hand didn’t recover as expected and when diagnosed, he was told that his brain tumor had resurfaced again.

After a prolonged struggle with the tumor, and with all their savings gone, the surgery was no longer a feasible option. So, Taaffe’s family and friends have set up a GoFundMe to support his radiotherapy and chemotherapy. When Nicolson, 28, heard about his fan’s recent upheavals, she turned to her Instagram handle and shared Taaffe’s story along with the GoFundMe link. The caption on her Instagram story read, “Eamonn was a fit and healthy 37 year old, but on 28th of May 2017 a massive seizure led to a diagnosis of a brain tumour.” Below it was noted, “Supporting Eamonn’s second brain Tumour Battle – Donate”, with a link to the GoFundMe page.

Besides these outside-the-ring heartfelt gestures, the WBC featherweight champion is also steering her focus on staying more active and hopefully landing a fight with the unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano. While the first is feasible and she has also expressed her determination to do it, a fight with Serrano, 35, seems a far-stretched reality right now.

Amanda Serrano is avoiding Skye Nicolson!

In a conversation with Ariel Helwani, Nicolson, at 11-0, admitted that she wanted to stamp her authority in the division. But she also claimed that Serrano, 47-2-1, didn’t want the smoke. The Meadowbrook native said, “She’s got the other belts in the division, I want the belts. Any world champion would want to be chasing the other belts. That’s the idea… She doesn’t want to fight me. I mean, it’s so obvious.”

Nicolson is coming off a dominating win against Dyana Vargas, as she made her first successful defense of her WBC strap. While she continues to chase Serrano, she might have to content herself with another top name. And you can expect her to enter the squared circle soon.

We extend our prayers to Eamonn Taaffe and his family and wish him a speedy recovery.
