Who were Skye Nicolson’s brothers? How did they pass away?

When Nicolson picked up boxing gloves at the age of 12, she started training at Yatala at the Jamie Nicolson Memorial Gym. It’s a gym dedicated to her late older brother. Jamie was an exceptional talent and was touted to be one of the greatest amateur boxers in the country’s history. Jamie had collected a bronze medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and then represented Australia at the 1992 Olympic Games.

But in 1994, a year before Nicolson was born, Jamie, at age 22, and his younger brother Gavin, just 10 years old, met a horrible car accident on their way to training. It was destiny, as Nicolson pointed out, that she also picked up boxing gloves and despite never meeting Jamie, she felt his presence and contribution to her life. When Nicolson won a Commonwealth Games medal, she believed it was meant to happen.

Nicolson had declared after victory, “I won that medal for both of us [me and Jamie], so stoked. It’s huge, it’s massive, I’m just glad it’s a gold one… It has actually felt a bit that way, like this was always meant to happen.” She only went strength to strength after that and now boasts of a WBC gold strap around her waist.
