Benavidez has been a top contender for many years. However, the “Mexican Monster” never got an opportunity to take on the champ, Canelo Alvarez. However, the WBC president came out before the Caleb Plant vs David Benavidez fight to state that the winner of the bout would be the next mandatory opponent for Alvarez. Benavidez was the victor in the bout and most likely will compete against Alvarez. Recently, Stephen Espinoza, president of Showtime stated that he has made an offer to Alvarez that would incentivize him to take this bout. He also expressed that they are looking for an opening later this year.
