Claressa Shields calls out Ryan Garcia—Is she right to hold him accountable for his past actions?

The phrase “you are the problem” has become increasingly common in comments directed toward Ryan Garcia in the recent past. One such person who has made the same claim is boxing sensation Claressa Shields. The undisputed women’s middleweight world champion has highlighted the most recent controversy Garcia found himself in to hit out at him, citing his recent use of racial slurs and Islamophobic epithets on the internet. Even the WBC banned him for the fiasco. The GWOAT feels that Garcia should have been canceled far earlier after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, in keeping with the current internet debate to do so.

Not too long ago, the female boxer also posted screenshots of her conversation with Ryan Garcia online, in which the latter can be seen saying, “If we had a baby, the baby would be superhuman.” Since then, the two have been clashing online, with both even expressing interest in settling their dispute inside a boxing ring. The Victorville native has even resorted to using inappropriate language to insult Shields, further intensifying the situation.

While in a conversation with Champside, the Flint native vehemently stated, “If anybody who just now canceling Ryan because he just came out to be racist. Like hold on now, Ryan should’ve been canceled when he had PEDs in his system. That’s first. When he cheated against Devin, he should have been canceled.”

Shields continued by saying that Garcia attempted to hide his PED use by asserting that he had passed numerous tests to demonstrate his innocence. She believes that he takes advantage of platitudes like “Oh Jesus loves everybody, Jesus don’t judge” to protect his reputation whenever something negative is spoken about him. However, he speaks negatively about everyone else (particularly her) while showing no sympathy for anyone else. “It’s the fact of like somebody who wants to have so much sympathy toward him, he doesn’t have a sympathy or care about nobody else,” she stated.

Shields even accused the boxing community of standing by and not calling out Ryan Garcia. She believes a lot of the people in the boxing community “do not stand for sh*t” and that she was just “f**king tired of them just letting this shit ride out” just because Ryan Garcia has a good enough social media following. “Have some morals. Have some standards. Stand for something,” Shields stated emphatically.

It would be unfair to claim that Ryan Garcia intentionally ingested the ostarine. It can also be a supplement contamination. NYSAC has taken strong measures against him and has declared his bout with Devin Haney a no-contest and banned him from boxing for a year. However, Shields feels he ought to have been canceled at that point in order to avoid all the drama and debate that followed soon after.

High time for Ryan Garcia to look after his mental health

As the fight began, Vargas seemed to be the aggressor and was dominating the battle. The bout was stopped in the sixth round as Sean Garcia suffered a vicious body shot. Following his brother’s loss, ‘KingRY’ was seen being led by security personnel out of the arena. Although the reason for leading him out has not yet been revealed, it might have been due to his unpredictable behavior.

He has a one-year break from boxing, and he could use it to take care of himself and stage his comeback for next year.
