Chris Eubank Jr. just ran into a surprise hiccup on the eve of his grudge match with fellow Brit Conor Benn! Set to throw down at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Saturday night, the tension between the two was already electric, and Friday’s weigh-in only cranked it up another notch. The 35-year-old tipped the scales at 160.05 pounds—a razor-thin 0.05 pounds over the stipulated limit.

Despite the minuscule nature of his weight difference, the Sussex native got sucker punched with a £375,000 (or $500,000) fine. This comes after Eubank Jr. was fined £100,000 ($130,000) once already for smashing an egg on Benn’s face earlier this year during their face-off at a press conference. Regardless, Eubank’s weight seems to have gotten people talking.

Since the weigh-ins, Chris Eubank Jr. has offered a behind-the-scenes look at his grueling weight cut for the fight, which is bound by a strict rehydration clause preventing either fighter from exceeding 170 pounds on the day of the fight. In a clip shared by Eubank’s team, the boxer is shown lying in a sweat suit, pushing to shed the final few pounds.

When he finally emerges, drenched in sweat, Eubank appears visibly drained and almost malnourished—a sight that left former undisputed super lightweight champion Josh Taylor genuinely concerned for Eubank Jr.’s health. “I think it should be called off,” he wrote on X, reacting to the clip. “Eubank looked terrible  & he has a rehydration clause chucked in there on top of that as well.”

“I think this is potentially a very disastrous night for boxing waiting to happen. I desperately hope this is not the case,” he added. Regardless of Taylor’s worries, Eubank Jr. seems to have pushed things even further.

Meanwhile, Conor Benn weighed 156.4 pounds on Friday and checked in at 165 pounds Saturday morning. Before the Saturday morning weigh-in, the 35-year-old was confident about what he was entering the ring to do. “At the end of the day, weights have no relevance to what happens tomorrow night. I’m going to go out there and stop this guy,” the 35-year-old said confidently.

Having said that, it appears Chris Eubank Jr. doesn’t want to pay any more fines by weighing more than 170 pounds. Meanwhile, Josh Taylor is worried about Eubank in the upcoming fight. Do you think he has anything to worry about?
