Oscar Valdez is one of the biggest names in the super-featherweight roster today. With some notable wins to his name, Valdez has rolled out steady statements and is on the pathway of becoming a modern era legend. But recently, the WBC super-featherweight champ’s A-sample tested positive for phentermine, a central nervous stimulant prohibited by the Voluntary Anti Doping Association.

This comes as a major roadblock for his September 10 fight against Robson Conceicao.

This test was conducted as a part of WBC’s clean boxing program and to keep some transparency in the sport. Also, VADA gives clear instructions to the fighters on the list of banned substances-phentermine is on the list.

Victor Conte, the founder of the sports nutrition company, SNAC, spoke to ESPN about what exactly is phentermine.

He said, “I personally have given athletes phentermine, I know what it does. It is very powerful. It is like methamphetamine.”

“You know why it’s a performance-enhancing drug? Because it’s a central-nervous stimulant. It accelerates your heart rate. It gives you energy. It gives you endurance. It gives you stamina. It makes it easier to breathe. Your training time to exhaustion would be much longer.” he added.
