Teofimo Lopez is currently in the midst of a divorce from his wife, Cynthia, with whom he also has a child. One thing to note is that Lopez has previously talked about filing for a divorce. However, surprisingly she was present during his last fight against Sandor Martin in December. He appeared very sad as he told Punsh Drunk Boxing about the personal issues he is going through right now. He talked about how people don’t know about a lot of things that go on in the background. Lopez went further and said, “My ex-wife, she filed for divorce. She’s gonna take half of my money and everything else with it”.
Though he stated that, “It comes with the territory” and that as long as he is living he is learning. He also talked about the exchange between him and his wife, after his disputed split decision victory over Martin last year. Lopez was upset at not being able to see his own son, and he expressed his frustration. He said that things like his wife not passing him his kid after his victory takes a toll on him, mentally. He said, “I’m doing everything for my son. I’m doing this for the new generation of boxing.”

While what he is going through is definitely sad, it leaves fans to wonder if he will be able to properly prepare for his bout against Taylor in the midst of all this turmoil. However, Lopez also gave the fans an insight into his thought process. He stated, “This is my third fight at 140, I’m facing the kingpin of the division, Josh Taylor”. He further added that this is what he does, he likes to “aim for the impossible”. Lopez appears to be very confident about the fight, as he recently sent a chilling message to his opponent.
“Once we start doing it, everybody is just gonna just jump right into it again”, said Lopez. Lopez replied positively to the question if his off-ring life is more problematic than the challenges he has to face inside the ring. He replied, “Absolutely” to the question. He further added that he is still young. The 25-year-old boxer said that he is currently in the part of his life where he is experiencing certain hardships. However, he seems to have a positive outlook on everything and his gaze seems to be looking ahead.
