During his discussion with Mike Tyson and Sebastian Joseph Day, ESPN’s NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith highlighted the kind of relationship he shares with his daughters. That even had Tyson join in with how his children are around him, pulling his legs. But over the next few minutes, the discussion forayed into a specific aspect of the guest’s growing up years. As Tyson and Joseph Day keenly listened, the sports journalist, Hotboxin’s most recent guest, took them back to the days of growing up in a strict household.

Over the years, the ever-erudite and eloquent Stephen A Smith has become one of the most recognizable and authoritative voices in the professional basketball league. His father was a hardware store owner. grew up in Queens, along with his four older sisters and an older brother, who sadly passed away in 1992. So around the half-hour mark, the trio’s discussion veered to family values. Describing himself as a liberal person, Smith said that his parents were far away from such free thoughts.

Outside, you were free to do whatever you wanted, but once inside the four walls of the home, you needed to do what you were told to, he shared. Smith revealed how his father once saved a particular Bill Cosby show for him to see and learn who rules the roost. Then Mike Tyson remembered how some of the fathers in those days threatened even to kill. So immediately recollecting a particular instance, Smith narrated how his father grabbed his brother and struck him with a tree branch since he missed attending school and instead went to play hookey. By today’s standards, he would have been imprisoned, he said.

He gave the example of NFL Running Back Adrien Peterson. The footballer reportedly received a suspension for handing over corporal punishment to his four-year-old son. Stephen Smith wondered how his father got away. Mike Tyson added, “…that football player brother, um, son, doesn’t understand how much he got away. He got away with so much because he’d be hurting right now if that was my father- mother.

Then Smith recounted what happened in his sister’s case. He said, “…I mean, my sister [my sister] got in trouble when she was a teenager. My father took a broomstick and beat her so bad [myself], and my sister jumped on top of her to cover her so he could stop hitting her because she was on the ground shivering. We jumped on top of her to stop her from to stop him from beating her. That’s how viciously he whipped her ass, and he’d be in jail.

The story would be a bolt from the blue for many fans. Probably that’s one the most intriguing aspect of Hotboxin.’ Each episode brings forth a tale, often unheard of, spanking new.
