Outside the ring, however, Mike Tyson’s personal life has been a saga of tumultuous ups and downs. He married his third wife, Lakiha ‘Kiki’ Spicer in 2009. Mike often credits her for turning around his life for good, and how his world revolves around her.

Iron Mike hosts a podcast on YouTube called ‘Hotboxin with Mike Tyson‘. Kicked off in 2019, the show aggregates over half a million subscribers. Comedian and actress Leslie Jones joined Mike and his co-host DJ Whoo Kid as the guest of the most recent episode.

The hosts and guests had a fantastic time, sharing their life journeys and experiences and laughing over goof-ups. Towards the mid-point, Leslie Jones, taking a cue from Mike’s life, pointed out the importance of staying true to self.

Mike Tyson talked about his wife

Jones had some great stuff to mention. said, “I was like this is what I’am talking if you gonna express yourself, that is the right way to do it and I was so proud of you dude.

Mike took time and added, “Let me explain that…“.

Then he explained how he and his wife once went to meet actor Chazz Palminteri during the show Bronx Tale. Amazed by the pin-drop silence, he told his wife, “Babe, I can do that!”

Then he explained how his wife used to write all the scripts which he used for testing on his friends.

Continuing, “Normally I go to shows in Europe and people ask me questions and I will act like I’am talking without actually answering questions. So my wife wrote it and I started testing on my friends, and they started laughing, tell me more, tell more and then all my friends enjoyed it“.

In fact, during the first show, a serious Mike told the audience about his father, whom he hardly knew. To his utter dismay, everyone started laughing, and he ran backstage. Finally, Lakisha stepped in and told him to be in control and make the most of the situation.

As per Tyson, “She said, you stay out of this. Keep going.” Thus, she encouraged him to continue.

The rest, as they say, is history.

The Iron Legacy

To this day, Mike Tyson remains a member of that coveted club that includes the likes of Floyd Patterson, Muhammad Ali, Tim Witherspoon, George Foreman, and Evander Holyfield. These are the men who had regained their crown after losing it!

It’s often said that winning is easy, but staying victorious is a different ball game altogether. And that’s what these men had demonstrated. Through sheer grit and steel guts, they returned and snatched what was theirs. Most men in a similar situation would give up on mere thoughts of the perils they might face.

For the man we know today – one who loves chatting and is eager to learn about other’s lives, a boxing elder – an enormous credit should go to Lakisha Spicer, who stood by him like a rock.
