“She Lived Through a Horrific Racism”: Former World Champion Tony Bellew Opens up About How He Got His Fighting Spirit From ‘Extremely Tough and Resilient’ Mother

Tony Bellew is a former professional boxer who now works as a boxing analyst and commentator. With only 3 losses out of the 34 matches he has fought, he can be considered someone who has a great record. This is even more amazing if we consider the fact that only elite-level boxers were able to defeat him. His love for boxing which put him in the craft didn’t leave him even until his retirement. Recently, Tony Bellew did an interview with IFL TV in which he shared the inspiration behind his indomitable fighting spirit. He credited all of this to the struggles his mother faced. From Tony’s words, his respect and admiration towards his mother and her ability to battle through hard times were quite evident. Bellew didn’t hold back as he went deep into the details of the struggle their family went through and how his mother stood up as a supporting pillar in his life.

IFL TV shared the clip of Bellew’s interview on their Twitter account. The caption revealed that the clip was from episode seven of the seventh season of The Fight Within. Tony Bellew, spoke about how his fighting spirit was influenced by his mother. He shared, “She has lived through a f***in, a period of racism. she lived through horrific racism.”

Bellew described his mother as an extremely tough and resilient woman who had lived through a period of horrific racism. Bellew, said, “She’s very, she’s extremely tough and resilient. She’s been through all this sh*t with me pops and stuff like that“.

Bellew himself hasn’t had an easy life, he once found himself spending some time in police custody for an act of violence. Bellew even shared his experience while he was there in an interview.

He explained that she had raised mixed-race children, including himself and his brothers, who were different shades of skin color. He explained the realities of the stigmas his mother had to face from society. Throughout her life, she had endured derogatory labels such as “h**f-br**ds” and “mo*gr*ls.” Despite the challenges she faced, Bellew’s mother remained strong and determined.
