Two-belt unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. saw his former opponent Shawn Porter suffer a horrific loss via TKO against Terence Crawford on Saturday night. Porter, who could last for all 12-rounds against Spence Jr. in 2019, couldn’t even make it to the championship rounds this time.

After 36 pro appearances, Porter now has a stoppage loss on his resume. And while several boxers, including Spence Jr. had claimed to stop Shawn Porter in-ring, only ‘Bud’ Crawford could do so. The existing welterweight division touts Crawford and Spence Jr. as two of the best in the slot.

A fight between them will also see the WBC, IBF, and WBO titles go up for grabs in a massive unification bout. However, Shawn Porter’s recent claims may not sit well with ‘The Truth’. Comparing his former opponents, Crawford and Spence Jr., Porter made some bombarding revelations.

‘Showtime’ said, “I felt like the fight with Errol Spence, going 12 rounds, was not as tough as fighting Terence Crawford.”

The fight between Porter and Spence Jr. was a 12-round slugfest. It’s still one of the best welterweight clashes of recent times where both the contenders pushed each other to the limits. Errol Spence Jr. came across a vicious version of Shawn Porter but managed to secure a win via decision. However, it was a different scene when Terence Crawford stepped up to face ‘Showtime’.

‘Bud’ dominated the fight from the very beginning and didn’t let Porter offer much heat. Although Shawn Porter offered his best, he couldn’t match Crawford’s abilities and fell prey in the 10 round.

Errol Spence Jr. vs Terence Crawford makes a lot of sense right now. All the welterweight titleholders have had their fair share of wins recently. WBA titlist Yordenis Ugas also cracked up Manny Pacquiao in August to retain his WBA strap. Hence, a fight between Spence Jr. and Crawford can bring the WBC, IBF, and WBO titles under one roof, with Ugas holding the WBA belt.

Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford are both unbeaten and are arguably the best at 147 lbs. But Crawford’s vast experience and recent division title win put him in a superior position than Spence Jr.

But given boxing’s unpredictability, Spence Jr shall have his chances. Unless the champions lock horns in the ring it will be hard to predict an outcome. Nevertheless, the current scenario gives a slight edge to Terence Crawford, who is now 38-0 as a professional.
