They were this close to getting it done, but it never happened. Shawn Porter and Floyd Mayweather never crossed paths, despite fighting and reigning supreme in the same division. What if they would have stood across from each other in the squared circle? Who would have won then? While the consensus could be in ‘Money’s favor, ‘Showtime’ wouldn’t have made it an easy fight.
The two came closest to inking a deal in 2015, when Porter, now 37, had picked up two consecutive wins in 2015. The latter of which came against Adrien Broner. He then hotly pursued a fight against the ‘Pretty Boy’. However, it never materialized. Therefore, when he recently released the latest episode of his podcast, ‘The PorterWay Podcast,’ he also shed light on the hypothetical fight. Disclosing how he would have been his usual confident self going into the fight, Porter, at 31-4-1, declared, “What was always said about Shawn Porter and Floyd—Shawn had the speed. Shawn had the quickness. Shawn had the explosiveness to give him problems. If you giving somebody problems, they are not washing you. So, I don’t know what the fight would look like. But I wasn’t going to get washed, goddamn it.”
The former two-time champion hung up his gloves in 2021 after he succumbed to a knockout loss to Terence Crawford. But he has always been proud of his professional career and how it turned out. In addition, Porter also revealed how he would have an upper hand compared to Mayweather, at 50-0, and his later opponents.

The Cleveland native explained he was a cerebral fighter who had a strong mental fortitude. He would gear up for his best and plan ahead of any fight, irrespective of his opponent’s fame or stature. Contrarily, Mayweather’s competitors in his later career had accepted defeat before stepping into the ring. Porter said, “I’ve always been cerebral from a standpoint of understanding the psychology of who’s across from me. And I always understood when it came to Floyd, especially later on in his career.”

He continued, “Most of the guys that got in the ring with him, they were beat before the fight even started. Because Floyd was just that guy, you know what I mean. So saying that to say this. He wasn’t gonna beat me before the fight.” Therefore, Porter has detailed how he would have put on a strong fight against Mayweather.
