On the 30th of September, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez proved his mettle as a pound-for-pound fighter when he rose to victory against Jermell Charlo at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Through his precision jabs, unmatched calm, and impressive footwork, Canelo Alvarez demonstrated his adeptness as a boxer and subsequently won a unanimous decision.

Another story was written at the same venue on the 29th of July, only a few months earlier. Terence Crawford emerged as the unified champion of the welterweight class after he defeated Errol Spence Jr. through a 9th-round knockout. In the days following the fight in September, the boxing realm anticipated a clash between the two champions. And if the fight does take its course, Shawn Porter has his pick for the favorite.

Former welterweight champion, Shawn Porter made his pick between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford if a fight between the two was outlined. He thinks the latter would go home victorious on fight night. He said, “If Terence wants to do it, he will do it. And if Terence wants to do it, he knows he can do it. I will actually bet on Terence Crawford for that fight.”

Porter chose ‘Bud’ as the undisputed champion of the welterweight class, and according to him Bud has time and again proven his girth as an abled fighter. With a stellar record of 40 undefeated fights, he is today one of the most promising fighters of his generation.

While Crawford has shown his keen interest in facing off against Canelo, the latter has shown hesitancies citing weight issues. But with a huge chunk of the boxing world anticipating this fight, a glimmer of hope persists.

Andy Ruiz Jr. Contrasts with Porter’s opinion

There is a significant difference in weights in which both Bud and Canelo fight. While the latter fights at super middleweight, Bud remains in the welterweight class. Despite the staggering difference, their potential to be one of the best fighters in the realm has constantly pushed them toward each other as rivals awaiting their clash. And if the clash does see the light of day, heavyweight fighter, Andy Ruiz Jr. thinks it will not go the way Shawn Porter thinks it will.

Ruiz Jr. believes in Canelo’s ability to show Bud his first loss. The fighter said, “I think Crawford could be the best in the world around those divisions, but he should stay away from Canelo.” However, he also denied placing the two fighters on the same premise. In fact, he suggested Bud establish his dominance in the industry once Canelo’s done with his crusade. He said, “Let Canelo do his thing, but I know for sure Crawford will be the face of boxing after Canelo does his thing.”

Little does the heavyweight fighter know that Crawford’s era began the night he emerged as unified champion at 147. Creating history, he marched out of the ring with his name held in place for the Hall of Fame. With each fight, Crawford and Canelo bring their fates in the ring closer to a junction where a fight between them will become inevitable. How soon will that day arrive is a question everyone seeks an answer to.
