On December 21, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will walk into the ring to rekindle their magic. If Usyk wins, he will continue with his undisputed (provided he still retains the IBF belt) journey. If he loses, there’ll be a new four-belt champion. It will be the culmination of a lifelong dream for Tyson Fury. However, there might still be one last box that needs a tick in his resume: Anthony Joshua. The clash between the two biggest names in the British boxing landscape is something fans have wanted for quite some time. It’s not that in this duel for the undisputed legacy, the London Olympic gold medalist was playing around the waiting game.

No, step by step, the Nigerian-British boxer has been improving his game since his consecutive defeats to Usyk. Now he is in a position where another championship belt might be within his grasp. Most experts believe he could face interim IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois at the Wembley show in September. If he wins, then ‘AJ’ might become a world champion for the third time. But he will also be first in line to stake a claim in a fight with the winner of Fury-Usyk 2. So let’s say there’s a fight between Joshua and ‘The Gypsy King’. Then who might have a better chance of winning? Shane Mosley has his own preferred choice.

In the heavyweight division, I would say Usyk and Anthony Joshua are the top fighters right now,” he said. Then, sharing his admiration for Anthony Joshua, he said he has especially started liking how ‘AJ’ has fought lately. Hence, given a choice, he would love to watch Usyk and Joshua get into another fight.

However, he also highlighted that there are attempts to get a match between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. “Tyson Fury wins against Usyk, then that will be a good match up in the in the UK for both guys to fight,” he said. But who does he think stands a higher chance of winning in the epic battle?

I would lean towards Anthony Joshua in that fight if they were to fight. I think Anthony Joshua is right up there with Usyk, said Shane Mosley.

Regardless of the December 21 fight’s outcome, one thing is clear: after the Usyk-Fury duel, the next big thing all fans and critics want to see is Joshua-Fury. It’s a fight that has been in the making for a long time. In 2022, a clash appeared in the offing but sadly, to no avail on account of failed negotiations. Then Joshua was resurrecting his lost fortunes. Three losses in three years had taken a toll. Many even called for the former unified champion to retire!

But starting with the Jermaine Franklin fight, ‘AJ’ gradually gained confidence and eventually secured stoppage wins in the subsequent two fights. Beginning this year, at the ‘Knockout Chaos’ in Kingdom Arena, he dashed Francis Ngannou’s hopes of a maiden boxing victory by sending him into a sweet dream in the second round. Anthony Joshua was finally back.

In a strict sense, the Olympic gold medalist and former champion has nothing more to prove in boxing. But with a much-sought-after win over Tyson Fury and the possibility of claiming the undisputed title, which could ultimately be the cherry on top, ‘AJ’ could look forward to closing an exemplary career on a high note.
