Following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Shane Mosley Jr. jumped headfirst into the sport back in 2014. And now, he has high hopes for the next generation to do the same. After all, the middleweight boxer has named his third son after one of the big screen’s most iconic boxing characters. Who is that?
Well, brace for impact! Mosley Jr. has made a surprising choice for the name of his son. He is naming him after Apollo Creed, a well-known boxing champion from the Rocky films portrayed to perfection by the late Carl Weathers. Originally a rival to the protagonist Rocky Balboa in the first film, Apollo Creed eventually became a beloved character in the sequels. The Sylvester Stallone-starrer debuted on the big screen all the way back in 1976, but Mosley Jr., who was born in December 1991, seems to have a profound connection with them.

Regardless, when Eisen inquired whether the famous movie character was the inspiration for the baby’s name, Mosley Jr. quickly responded, “I mean, definitely”, adding, that it was one of the contributing factors, but “We just love the name, we just thought it was very fitting for our fourth kid to be Creed.” But that’s not all! Mosley Jr. gave one of the most wholesome answers when Eisen asked a follow-up question.
Shane Mosley Jr. recollects his mom’s move to make him self-reliant
Eisen, while highlighting that Mosley Jr. is going to be a father to three sons, asked whether he would let them figure things out on their own. This seemed to conjure up memories in Mosley’s mind when his mother forced him to become self-reliant in his quest to become a boxer. “She told me that if you wanted to make a career out of this, you’re going to have to go and do it yourself”, Mosley Jr. said.
