It’s not looking too rosy right now. But when did it ever? With the number of times Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis traded barbs back and forth over the past few months, it’s starting to feel like if they ever meet in the ring, we’re in for a guaranteed knockout. Whether it’s Stevenson outboxing Tank Davis or Tank putting Shakur to sleep, it’s looking like this will only be settled inside a ring. However, Shakur isn’t into this drama, or so he says. Only a few weeks ago, the WBC lightweight champion contended that he doesn’t much care if a title unification fight happens between him and the WBA champion. “Nah, not really… my truth is like… boxing is politics. So anybody could be undisputed in the ring fight.” That’s what Shakur Stevenson said. He even went as far as to add, “Truthfully, I don’t really care about this sh*t.” But don’t let him fool you.
Deep down, he definitely has his eye on snatching that WBA title from Gervonta Davis. It’s clear as day, especially after what he recently said to the Ring Magazine. Shakur’s got big dreams, and they’re not just limited to Kid Austin—who he’s fighting in the undercard of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol. Nah, Stevenson’s already pulling strings to fight the Baltimore native soon.

Shakur Stevenson criticizes Gervonta Davis’ quality of opponents
In the conversation with Ring Magazine, the 27-year-old addressed the ongoing tension between him and Gervonta Davis. The reporter asked if it was realistic to think a fight between them would happen, or whether Tank was really up for the fight or not. To which, Shakur answered that if the fight between him and Gervonta Davis doesn’t happen, it only means one thing. Which is? One of them is scared. “If that fight can’t happen, I think somebody gotta be scared,” the WBC Lightweight boldly stated.

When the reporter mentioned that Stevenson had publicly said he wanted the fight, Shakur went on the offensive. He accused Tank of constantly talking badly about him and belittling his achievements in the sport. “He’s like he goes out there. He disses me all the time, man. Speak bad about my name.” This prompted the Newark native to further question why Tank isn’t stepping up to face him in the ring. “Fight me. Why go fight all of these guys?” the 27-year-old asked.
Not just that. He also called out Gervonta Davis for fighting opponents who “haven’t done nothing for the sport of boxing,” which Shakur had already “accomplished” being a three-division champion. Shakur’s Stevenson’s frustration is clear. “Then you go out there and say, ‘Oh he didn’t do nothing. What have you done for the sport of boxing?’ But you’re not fighting me. You’ll fight somebody else?” the 22-0 boxer added dejectedly. However, it doesn’t end here.
At the beginning of 2025, Shakur Stevenson came out swinging, exposing Gervonta Davis with receipts that made his allegations stick. He’s not just talking smack—he’s got the goods. Now, Davis is looking fishy.
The feud that just won’t die
The two were supposed to square off last year, but negotiations fell apart. Gervonta Davis threw the first punch by accusing Stevenson of dodging the fight. He moreover claimed he sent Shakur a contract that went unanswered. Gervonta Davis posted on X, “Ni***s sent him a contact he went elsewhere… get off my d**k you d**k eater.”

Shakur Stevenson, however, strongly denied the allegations, stating that he had never received a contract. While talking to Naji on ‘Cigar Talks,’ the 27-year-old declared, “On my life, Tank a liar. If he sent me a contract, tell him to post that contract. Post that contract he sent me. That’s what I want to see.”

Stevenson didn’t just stop at denying the contract claim. He threw some serious shade at Gervonta Davis’ resume, saying Tank’s opponents weren’t up to par and that he uses weight advantage to get an edge. “You’re taking the less talented fighters and putting them in the ring with yourself and making them look as though they are on this level, but they’re not,” Stevenson said.
It’s clear both fighters have a bone to pick with each other, but until one of them puts their money where their mouth is, the feud will continue to simmer like a pot waiting to boil over. Do you think Gervonta Davis is avoiding Shakur Stevenson? If they do fight, who do you think will win: Shakur Stevenson or Gervonta Davis?
