Stevenson has previously stated his desire for a fight against welterweight Gary Antuanne Russel. However, the bout can only take place in the distant future as Stevenson has only just entered the lightweight division. Even though Stevenson called Russel as one of the most competitive and toughest opponents he has ever faced in the ring, the duo only sparred against one another. That being the case it seems that Oscar Valdez remains as Stevenson’s toughest rival in the professional ring. The super featherweight fight took place last year in MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. At the time Stevenson told the DAZN Boxing Show that the bout was the toughest fight of his career.
