WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson has one goal and one goal only. That is to fight WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis down the line. While the future of such a fight seemed impossible, as ‘Tank’ has refused to give Stevenson the opportunity, things have seemingly changed in recent days. Even Stevenson’s promoter has shed more light on the potential fight.
The Newark native is coming off a ninth-round knockout victory over Josh Padley in February earlier this year. Though he was originally supposed to face rising star Floyd Schofield Jr., who pulled out of their fight in the eleventh hour because of illness. Since then, Stevenson’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has sat down with Fight Hub TV to discuss the 27-year-old’s future.
The reporter highlighted the rematch between William Zepeda and Tevin Farmer asking about whether the winner (Zepeda) will face Stevenson. Hearn explained that a fight between Stevenson and Zepeda was supposed to happen instead of the Padley fight because the WBC mandated the two fighters to square off.

However, it didn’t happen due to a couple of factors. Initially, Zepeda suffered a hand injury during the first Farmer fight, and later, he chose to rematch Farmer. He expects Zepeda to win his rematch against Farmer, and Stevenson vs. Zepeda would be next on the list. Despite that, Hearn also claimed that they are willing to wait until September for a fight against Gervonta Davis, as soon as he is done with his Lamont Roach Jr. rematch.

“But at the same time, we’ll go straight into a Tank fight if they want. Tank’s fighting, I think, on June 21st. We’re happy to wait till September for that fight,” Hearn told the reporter. In the meantime, Stevenson has also given the Davis fight a major boost.

“We gotta normalize that we will NEVER get,” he wrote, “Canelo vs David Benavidez, Tank Davis vs Shakur Stevenson, Crawford vs Boots.” Stevenson quickly took note of the tweet and responded, which gave the fans some hope that the fight would happen eventually. “Fight gone happen ion believe that,” Stevenson responded.
Having said that, it appears Shakur Stevenson is adamant about making the fight against Gervonta Davis happen no matter what. However, it’s yet to be seen whether Stevenson’s confidence holds up. Until then, we would love to get your thoughts on the potential fight.
