After Shakur Stevenson defeated Shuichiro Yoshino in April last year, he became Devin Haney‘s mandatory. At that point, Devin Haney had defeated George Kambosos Jr. twice and was the undisputed lightweight champion. However, ‘The Dream’ went on to fight the former unified Lightweight champion, Vasyl Lomachenko, in May. After Haney’s victory over Lomachenko, Stevenson’s manager Josh Dubin requested the WBC to begin the “Free Negotiations Period” so the arrangements for Haney vs. Shakur could be quickly made. However, Haney gradually made Stevenson a 75-25 split offer which Shakur could not accept.

Soon, ‘The Dream’ decided to move up to 140 lbs and challenge Regis Prograis for the WBC Super-Lightweight title. Later, Haney told the media that had Shakur believed in himself, he would have taken the 75-25 offer. Now, ahead of Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney on April 20th, ‘The Dream’ was informed that Shakur Stevenson would be a “free agent” after his expected fight against Artem Harutyunyan on July 6th. So, would Haney be open to fighting Stevenson after the battle against ‘KingRy’?

Of course, I wanna make the biggest fights happen. But right now, Ryan Garcia is my main focus. We gave Shakur an offer. Me and Shakur could have fought at 135. We know what happened,” replied Devin Haney, claiming it was Shakur, who had ducked ‘The Dream’. Of course, Haney’s statements came to Shakur’s notice!

In this connection, one must mention that Shakur Stevenson dared Haney to return to 135 lbs after his move to super lightweight.

Shakur Stevenson wanted Devin Haney to come down to 135 lbs

Ahead of his fight against Regis Prograis in December last year, Devin Haney said that he would fight Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson later in the future. Additionally, justifying the 75-25 offer he had made, ‘The Dream’ said, “It was the most money that he would have ever made in all his fights put together with that 25%, and that’s facts, that’s 100%.” But, Shakur felt otherwise.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Stevenson said, “I dare him to come back to 135 and try me... Like I pray that that’s what he plans on doing and I can show the world I’m the truth,” he added. However, as of now, it seems very unlikely that Devin Haney would return to 135 lbs to fight Shakur Stevenson. Anyway, what do you make of Haney’s latest statements? Do you think he ducked Shakur?
