Can Serhii Bohachuk steal the spotlight on the Usyk vs. Fury undercard? What do you think?

Serhii Bohachuk has just hit the jackpot after stepping away from a bout with Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. The 29-year-old Ukrainian fighter is coming off a commendable majority decision loss against interim WBC super welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. on August 10th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Now, he’s reportedly set to fight on the undercard of the highly anticipated Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch on December 21st.

You see, the thing is, since Bohachuk’s last fight, ‘El Flaco’ was floated around as the next potential opponent for Ennis, should the Philadelphia puncher decide to relinquish his IBF title to move to super welterweight. Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn even told IFL TV that he reached out to arrange the bout, as Ennis weighed his options before his mandatory purse bid with Karen Chukhadzhian. However, as the Usyk vs. Fury 2 undercard update came in, that potential fight seems to be in the gutters.

Bohachuk’s Promoter, Tom Loeffler, himself told Ring Magazine’s senior writer, Jake Donovan, “Serhii Bohachuk will return to the ring Dec. 21 on #UsykFury2 undercard in Riyadh.” It’s worth mentioning that Bohachuk’s opponent for the fight has not been settled on as of the time of writing.

Coming back to Ennis, the 27-year-old has already faced and defeated Karen Chukhadzhian in July 2023 when he won the interim version of his current belt. The fight had gone the distance, with Ennis securing a unanimous decision over Chukhadzhian. This seems to have sent Ennis’ promoter into a wild rant.

Eddie Hearn lashes out at Brian Norman Jr.

Eddie Hearn did not hold back in an interview with his company’s YouTube channel when discussing the ongoing negotiations with Brian Norman Jr. regarding a potential fight with Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. “This is a really simple situation. The first offer was nicely over $1 million. They felt that was nowhere near. We’ve made two more offers, $250,000 more every time, to levels that Brian Norman will never see…”

He continued, “Do you want to be great, Brian Norman? Not being funny, who is Brian Norman?” Hearn’s frustration was compounded by the IBF’s decision to mandate a rematch between Ennis and Chukhadzhian, a fight that Ennis had already won. “The IBF have got to stop this, they’re ruining boxing… We may vacate the belt,” Hearn revealed.
