George Kambosos Jr. has a message for his upcoming opponent Vasyl Lomachenko! ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reported on the May 12 date during last weekend’s Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith fight. According to reports, the lightweight clash will take place in Kambosos’ home country, Australia, possibly at the RAC Arena in Perth. However, the bigger question is, what’s on the line?
In November last year, the former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney vacated the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO titles to fight Regis Prograis at 140 pounds. So, ‘Ferocious’ and ‘Loma’ would duke it out for the vacant IBF title and Kambosos’ IBO title. However, with over two months remaining until the fight, Kambosos Jr. turned to Instagram today, conveying a special message for his Ukrainian counterpart.

Sharing a poster of the fight, the Sydney native wrote, “Two Warriors In A Battle For The Ages For The Lightweight World Championship In Australia!” He went on to address ‘Loma’ directly, wishing him to have a healthy camp while promising to see him soon. “Have A Healthy Camp @lomachenkovasiliy. See You Soon Down Under,” Kambosos wrote.

Interestingly, Kambosos Jr. lost his IBF title to Haney when they first fought in June 2022 and also failed to reclaim it during the rematch in October of the same year. On the other hand, Vasyl Lomachenko is coming off a close fight loss to Haney for the now-vacant title. The fight will be telecasted live on ESPN on the night of May 11 in the United States. However, who will be on their undercard?

While nothing has been finalized for the undercard of the fight, a report from Boxing Scene has revealed a few potential names to feature in the undercard. Most notably, the undercard may see the Australian Moloney twins. Jason Moloney is coming off of a recent win over Saul Sanchez. The fight was featured in the undercard of Beterbiev and Smith in Canada.
Meanwhile, Jason’s brother Andrew Moloney last fought on 9 December against Judy Flores for the vacant WBO Global Super Flyweight title. He also might make an appearance in the undercard for a WBO 115-pound elimination match against an opponent not yet finalized. More details will trickle out as the fight night gets closer.
