While some confusion regarding a rematch between Sebastian Fundora and Tim Tszyu persists, crucial updates have emerged now. A report reveals important details about the potential rematch, the source of which is directly rooted in Fundora.
On March 30th, Tszyu got his first taste of Fundora’s might. The Las Vegas fight, gripping throughout, saw ‘The Soul Taker’ take a major beating, partly because of an errant elbow causing a cut to Tszyu’s forehead. As he was given a lethal loss at the hands of his American opponent, Tszyu’s record was scathed with a career first loss. Desperate to redeem himself, Tim Tszyu has now sought a rematch. While Fundora’s team had earlier agreed to allow a rematch, a specific condition has now come from their team. What is it?
As per the Boxing Kingdom, the team has refused a rematch in Australia but has agreed to a fight in the USA. The fight against Fundora was only Tszyu’s second fight out side of his home country, Australia. The publication on its X, relaying the news, wrote, “TEAM FUNDORA HAVE REFUSED TO REMATCH TIM TSZYU IN AUSTRALIA. Fight must take place in USA.”

Earlier, it was reported that Sampson Lewkowicz, Fundora’s promoter had agreed to give Tim Tszyu a chance at reclaiming his title. “But let it be known, we’re men of honor. A handshake with us is as good as gold. Tim Tszyu, step up when you’re ready. The ring is waiting. My word is always equal to a signed contract. Your rematch is ready when you are,” Lewkowicz declared.
Further, outlining his plan if Tszyu’s team lets go of the rematch offer, the promoter noted, “If he doesn’t take the rematch, we will take the WBO mandatory or Spence, whatever the WBO says, but the first priority is the rematch with Tim Tszyu.”

While the rematch now seems to be on the horizon, most expected the southpaw to fight against Terence Crawford earlier.

The 2x undisputed champion had earlier leveraged his position as the WBO welterweight champ to be nominated as the mandatory challenger for the super welterweight title that Fundora took away from Tszyu. In another revelation, the promoter informed why that fight wouldn’t happen.

Speaking to ProBox TV Espanol, Sampson Lewkowicz, explained, “Crawford’s lawyer called me very respectfully and said ‘Look, I have an offer for you to fight in Saudi Arabia with Crawford and your fighter Sebastian Fundora…’ and I said, ‘Look, I thank you very much, but I don’t want to hear it because he’s not going to be ready until November’… I can’t negotiate when my fighter is hurt.”
