Caleb Plant has a knack for getting into troubled waters. Trouble chases him around whenever he attends the fight events or makes public appearances. Another typical moment came when a heckler tried to gain the upper hand on the American boxer. But it went exactly as it does, with the boxer having the last word.
Plant, 32, was at the grand arrivals for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga undercard, as he geared up to take on Trevor McCumby this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena. However, as he stood on the stage, answering questions and reacting to his opponent’s comments of calling him a “quitter,” a fan from the crowd shouted, “You’ll get knocked out like you always do. You’re a b-m.”
This didn’t sit well with ‘Sweethands’ as he quickly turned to take the matters with his fist. He then looked at the section of the crowd and asked the person to come up and say the same comment to his face. Plant, at 22-2, said, “Say what? Come up here and say that in my face. Yeah, come up and say that in my face. See how that works out. I’ll show you what a b-m look like.”

This wasn’t the first time when the super middleweight fighter received such a comment, as Berlanga, 27, had similar remarks for him at the Beverly Hills press conference last month. But Plant is focused on his next fight and clinching the interim WBA title at 168 against McCumby. Interestingly, the former champion doesn’t see it going the distance.
Caleb Plant predicts the outcome of his fight with Trevor McCumby
Pointing out his opponent’s nervousness at faceoff and a stutter in his voice, Plant is eager to see what McCumby brought to the table. While the 31-year-old boxer boasts of an unblemished record and intends to shield it, Plant has other plans. He told BoxingScene, “I’m going to do my best to stick to the game plan. But I don’t see this fight going the distance.”
If the Tennessee native returns to the winner’s column and bags the interim title, he will be next in line to face Alvarez. It will set up a rematch between the two, which ended in an 11th-round knockout for Plant. But a loss might push him down the order and effectively close his chances of getting a title shot. It remains to be seen whether Plant will rise to the occasion amidst growing criticism.
