Ryan Garcia says he'll destroy Terence Crawford—Is he biting off more than he can chew?

Ryan Garcia is itching to get back inside the ring after his suspension ends on April 20, 2025. Time away from the ring isn’t being spent resting on his laurels. He is looking for his next opponent. “Boxing jail going quick. I’ll be in the ring in no time. I’m already going after the biggest fights,” he wrote on X. But who will it be?

Well, he already has a plethora of opponents he wants to fight— Errol Spence Jr, a rematch with Gervonta Davis, and Teofimo Lopez, among many others. Recently, he also challenged Jose Valenzuela who recently won the WBA super lightweight title by defeating Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz in a split decision. “You’re a champion and beat somebody [Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz] that nobody thought you could beat. I also beat somebody that people didn’t think I could beat.  It would be two fighters that were underdogs coming to fight each other, and I think we’d do a big fight.” Garcia said in a face-to-face Instagram live session with Valenzuela, agreeing to fight at 145lbs catchweight. Moreover, another fighter he wants to fight is the two-time undisputed champion Terence Crawford.

So in a recent X-spaces live stream, Garcia said that even though he called out ‘Bud’ for a fight, he didn’t think that the fight was going to happen because the Nebraska native was more interested in fighting the unified supermiddleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. “Bud Crawford I called him out already. I think he literally is only trying to fight Canelo Alvarez, so I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Furthermore, Garcia stated that Terence Crawford is an “overrated” fighter and he could easily beat him up“. “I would love to fight Bud Crawford, I don’t think he’s as good as people say he is. I would uh literally beat the [ __ ] out of you. You’re a good fighter but I don’t think you’ve ever fought somebody with talent and explosiveness and Power in my opinion,”

Additionally, Garcia also downplayed the boxing prowess of Crawford’s past opponents. “I mean you beat Shawn Porter. He is a great fighter, but kind of basic. Errol Spence Jr came off a crash don’t think he’s that good. Have you fought anybody with one-punch knockout power? no, so I feel like uh Bud Crawford is over overrated,” he added.

However, the chances of this fight happening, as Garcia mentioned, are very slim. Crawford is only hellbent on fighting the kingpin of the super middleweight division Canelo Alvarez. Terence is currently fighting at 154, and would in no way come down to 147 again to fight Garcia. Meanwhile, an almost sure-shot chance of a rematch for Ryan Garcia’s bitter rival Devin Haney might be dead in the water, but why?

A lawsuit that the boxing community found laughable!

If Haney wasn’t already embarrassed by Ryan Garcia in April of this year by being on the receiving end of the beatdown of his life, and ultimately losing the boxing match via a majority decision (later changed to no-contest due to Ryan being found guilty of consuming ostarine), his next move stunned the boxing community. ‘The Dream’ filed a lawsuit in New York against Garcia, accusing him of battery, fraud, and breach of contract following the boxer’s doping violation ahead of their fight in April.

“At no time did Devin Haney consent to engage in a bout against a boxer who was positive for a performance-enhancing drug, performance enhancing-procedure or masking agent and would not have proceeded with the bout had he known,” Haney’s attorney Pat English wrote in the lawsuit. Right after the lawsuit was making rounds on the internet, Bill Haney stated that Devin would rematch Ryan Garcia provided that he passed the required drug test and the fight purse was substantial.

However, after the new lawsuit against him, Ryan Garcia is not interested anymore to fight the 25-year-old boxer from California. “I’m so over this Haney fight but they keep on bothering me and talking about it I’m ready for bigger things Leave me alone, I already beat your ass Nothing else to prove,” Garcia wrote on X.

The Victorville native wants to move on from the Haney fight and wants matchups with other high-profile opponents. Meanwhile, Haney seems to have shot himself in the foot with the lawsuit, as an overwhelming number of boxing fans are annoyed with him as it sets a dangerous precedence for boxing in general.

Nevertheless, will Terence Crawford fight Ryan Garcia? Moreover, would Ryan Garcia rematch Devin Haney? Let us know in the comment section below.
