After much anticipation, Ryan Garcia finally has the fight he has been waiting for. In a now-deleted tweet, Garcia hinted at a forthcoming match on April 20th. Garcia conveyed a strong message, urging his opponent, Rolly Romero to savor every moment outside the ring until April 20th because the upcoming bout would not be enjoyable for Romero. However, securing this fight was no easy task.

Initially, Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, had considered a match with Jose Ramirez, citing Romero’s high financial demands. In response, Romero pursued a fight with Isaac Cruz, another contender for Garcia. Romero even accused De La Hoya of bypassing him to negotiate with Cruz. Despite these complications, Garcia ultimately confirmed the fight, part of the credit lying with Floyd Mayweather.

After the Haney fight plans fell apart, ‘KingRy’ redirected his attention to Rolly Romero. There was notable buzz when pictures surfaced of Garcia enjoying a WNBA game between the Dallas Wings and Las Vegas Aces, where he was seen in the crowd with Mayweather. This event garnered considerable attention in the news, with many speculating the 25-year-old fighter to move to Mayweather Promotions. As it seems, the talks might have helped Garcia secure a fight against Romero, who is signed with the company.

Garcia posted on X, roping in Mayweather. “Btw Floyd posted this fight before everyone. So you know it’s happening,” he said confirming the fight yet again. Mayweather also seems to find the fight to be a good opportunity for his fighter. Long-time journalist Dan Rafael has disclosed the tentative date for the highly anticipated fight, revealing that it is set for April 20 in Las Vegas. The bout is expected to headline a DAZN pay-per-view event, with negotiations still underway. Before it goes down, Roy Jones Jr. has some advice for the pugilist.

Roy Jones Jr. on what Ryan Garcia should do to win

Jones Jr. has expressed doubts about Garcia’s potential success at the highest echelons of boxing. While acknowledging Garcia’s commendable skills, particularly his potent left hook, Jones Jr. remains unconvinced about Garcia’s prospects against top-tier opponents.

In an interview with Fight Hype, the legendary ‘Captain Hook’ praised the young boxer but highlighted a perceived vulnerability in his approach. “I think he’s an awesome fighter but the problem in my opinion is that Ryan has a left hook that is a killer but everybody knows it. So until he gets something else or knows how to disguise it, he’s going to have a hard time with the upper-echelon fighters,” said Jones.

The seasoned boxer emphasized that unless Garcia diversifies his arsenal or learns to disguise his signature move, he may encounter challenges against high-caliber opponents who possess the defensive skills to evade his predictable attacks. Despite Garcia’s potential success in regular fights, Jones Jr. believes that facing more skillful opponents could pose a significant challenge for the rising star.
