Outside of the ring, it has been a hard year for the lightweight contender, Ryan Garcia. The 15-month long layoffs hollowed the 23-year-old prospect early in his career. Hurdles from all directions engulfed the ring warrior and resisted him from extending his winning streak.

First, wrist injury and then the mental health issues traumatized the former WBC interim lightweight champion, who was on the verge of taking a title shot.

However, recently in an interview, ‘The Flash’ recalled a sorrowful incident that he underwent in the spring of 2021. According to him, he was with his manager, Lupe Valencia, in the car and ‘broke down’ because he could not resume his training in the gym. Because while being inside the gym, he could not focus at all and he was unable to workout.

‘KingRy’ said, “I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I can’t move. I can’t do anything. Speaking up, asking for help, getting real professional help—it started there, and then just enduring, persevering, trying to get better. There’s no really other way around it. I had to choose to just push myself, get myself back up because I was in a dark place.”

Further, he praised his family and friends for support. He added, “But everything kind of helped me. It was a big, big help for my family and friends and everything around me. Everybody contributed to getting me back on track.”

To everyone’s surprise, ‘The Flash’ had made a big announcement at the start of this year. Changing the course of his boxing career, the young star parted ways from his former coach, Eddy Reynoso, and his team. However, he also stated the reason for pulling back from Reynoso’s camp. According to him, the focus of the renowned trainer was on pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez, which hindered his training.

What’s next for Ryan Garcia?

Though it was a bold step to distance from the best training camp in the world, Ryan Garcia took and began his training under the wings of the new coach and the Hall of Famer Joe Goossen.

The last fight he fought was in January 2021 against Luke Campbell and emerge victorious via way of knockout.

However, as of now, ‘KingRy’ is all set to throw fists against the Ghanian pugilist, Emmanuel Tagoe, on April 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
