It’s been several months since the drama between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney began, and there seems to be no end in sight to their saga. On a more recent note, Devin’s father and trainer, Bill Haney rallied to get accountability from the Victorville native after the latter refused to enroll with VADA for random testing.
Just a quick refresher: Garcia and Haney fought back in April, where ‘King Ry’ wiped the floor with Haney, dropping the former undisputed lightweight champion three times en route to a majority decision victory. However, he later tested positive for Ostarine, subsequently getting the win turned into a no-contest, fined $1.2 million, and banned from boxing for a year.
The Haneys have since filed a lawsuit against Garcia, seeking damages for battery, fraud, and breach of contract. Later, Bill Haney gave Garcia an ultimatum, demanding he enroll with VADA within 48 hours if he wanted a rematch with his son. However, Garcia refused to follow, suggesting he is the A-Side and doesn’t have to do anything the Haneys say.

It followed a lengthy back and forth between Bill and Garcia on X, where the father and trainer to Devin Haney accused Garcia of intentionally taking the banned substance. In his tweets, Bill wrote, “… If you’re so confident you didn’t cheat, show us the receipts and prove it…” This prompted Garcia to ask, “Does it have to be your precious vada bill or can it be any organization?”
Media 🤔 It’s time to step up and ask the real question: Why is Ryan Garcia refusing random VADA testing? If clean sport matters, we need answers, not silence. Let’s hold everyone to the same standard and put the spotlight on accountability in boxing. The fans deserve the truth…

Since then, Bill has hopped on X yet again, writing, “Media. It’s time to step up and ask the real question: Why is Ryan Garcia refusing random VADA testing?” He claimed that Garcia needs to answer for the sake of clean boxing, adding, “Let’s hold everyone to the same standard and put the spotlight on accountability…”
The 26-year-old hasn’t responded to Bill’s tweets against him. However, that hasn’t slowed down the barrage of tweets from the older Haney.

Bill Haney reminds Ryan Garcia of the standard practice
VADA has been the most reliable entity in boxing for drug testing for the longest time. However, there are over-engineered drugs today that still manage to go undetected. Even when a boxer pops for a banned substance, the consequences are far from drastic. Plus, boxers often bombard the situation with expensive lawyers to change the narrative.
However, with Garcia’s situation, Bill Haney is adamant about getting justice. “Team Garcia, let’s not twist the facts,” Bill wrote in a tweet. “The WBC’s Clean Boxing Program with VADA has been in place since 2016, with mandatory random testing for top fighters to protect the sport’s integrity. This isn’t a new rule it’s the standard. Who’s hiding?”
