When is Ryan Garcia fighting next? We almost had a fight. Almost. But the American fighter’s exhibition fight against Rukiya Anpo couldn’t go ahead. So, boxing fans excitedly await his comeback, it seems like they won’t have to wait for too long, and Oscar De La Hoya has kept things interesting by revealing what he has in store for him.

Garcia, 26, is currently serving his one-year suspension after testing positive for Ostarine in a pre-fight test before his Devin Haney fight. The suspension will be effective till the end of April, and that’s when De La Hoya, 51, will try to book a fight involving ‘KingRy’. Despite being inactive since April, Ryan Garcia’s loud mouth ensured he remained in contention for big fights, and given his last performance and his ability to pull in PPV numbers, you can expect him to land a big name, too. But who it could be?

The Golden Boy Promotions lynchpin sat down in a conversation with Fight Hub TV and disclosed the names he had put on the suitors’ list. Teofimo Lopez and Jaron Ennis’ names popped out, but only after a tune-up fight. He said, “Once Ryan gets back in action, once Ryan gets back in rhythm and maybe has a tune-up fight, possibly in late April or maybe early May, then I want to throw him in there with the very best, and I think in top of my head, Teofimo Lopez or even ‘Boots’ Ennis, or whoever the very best is.”

But what about the Garcia vs. Haney rematch? Will that happen? Both camps and fans have floated the idea of a rematch. But many also believe the rematch isn’t needed.

Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney 2: Is the rematch on the cards?

The Mexican-American promoter is also among those who feel a rematch isn’t warranted. He pointed out how much Garcia, at 24-1, had dismantled Haney, at 31-0, and so there was no need for a rematch. He continued, “We still have Devin Haney, who is, you know, wanting that rematch against Ryan Garcia. The way Ryan Garcia handled Devin Haney, to me, personally, doesn’t call for a rematch. But who knows, the back and forth is pretty intense.”

What’s your perspective on:

Should Ryan Garcia face Teofimo Lopez or Jaron Ennis first, or is a Haney rematch inevitable?

Interestingly, when asked about the same from others, such as Mike Tyson, they seem to be in favor. ‘Iron Mike’ even went to the extent of calling it the match he wanted to see in 2025. He declared, “I think Ryan and Devin should fight again. That was a good fight, man. That was a good one.”

But what if the rematch doesn’t happen? Garcia has a long list of names to pick and choose from, including Blair Cobbs, whom he dropped in sparring. It remains to be seen when he returns to the ring and what plans he has for 2025.
