American sports journalist Dan Rafael was the first to report Ryan Garcia’s one-year suspension from boxing. Garcia fought Devin Haney on April 20th, and he tested positive for PED during the pre and post-fight tests. Not too long ago, NYSAC ruled that fight as a no-contest, and declared that Garcia would not be able to fight for one year.

The boxer and his legal team are adamant that this was not intended but rather a supplement contamination. But to no avail, the damage has already been done. Amidst this, Ryan’s mother Lisa Garcia shared a post on Instagram trying to prove her son’s innocence.

Lisa shared a screenshot where she received messages from a woman on Instagram. The other person’s identity is hidden in the screenshot. The individual described in the chat that she had texted Rafael about the matter at hand. Canelo Alvarez also tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, she said, but he blamed it on tainted Tijuana meat. As per the woman, Rafael never replied and even blocked her. In addition, she wrote that Canelo had no repercussions, while Garcia tested positive for a “microscopic grain of salt and they’re ready to hang him”.

Lisa mentioned in her caption that she has no ill thoughts about Canelo, Alicia Baumgardner, and Sean O’Malley, all three tested positive for PED use. But none of them had to give up their victories due to this and even got a lesser suspension. The caption read, “I love Canelo Alicia and Sean O’malley – Some got less suspension for their contaminated supplements but NONE had their WIN reversed!!! @danrafael1 did not go after any of these guys/gal the way he did Ryan in the press – This commentor tried to hold him to this and he blocked her.”

The Victorville native’s triumph over Haney turned out to be one of the biggest boxing events of the year. Garcia seemed the aggressor during the altercation and even knocked down Haney thrice during the fight. The fight was ruled a no-contest, though, thus Haney’s record is still spotless and shows zero losses in his professional boxing career. Not only that, ‘The Dream’ disclosed that he is planning to take further action against Garcia.

Following the suspension by NYSAC, 25-year-old Ryan Garcia had to return his purse to Golden Boy Promotions, which is $1.1 million. But this was just the disclosed purse, he must have earned even more than that. Moreover, he also needs to pay $10,000 to NYSAC as a penalty. But the one-year suspension and the penalty is not just what Garcia has to go through. There’s more.

Due to Haney’s loss to Garcia, the former believes that now he is paid less money for his upcoming fights. Despite the bout being considered a no-contest, he has to go through its repercussions and he wants to take further action against Garcia. Haney stated, “My lawyers will do what they’ve gotta do to prove that in court against Ryan. We will take legal action because it has affected me – not only financially, but mentally and everything.”

This fiasco has likely become the biggest hot topic in the boxing world. It is gaining even greater attention as more and more developments emerge. Who knows when this saga will come to an end?
