Ryan Garcia reunites with Eddy Reynoso

Millcity Boxing recently shared a clip where Ryan Garcia’s father, Henry Garcia, revealed some crucial updates about his son’s training situation. According to Henry, Ryan Garcia is reuniting with none other than Canelo Alvarez’s longtime trainer, Eddy Reynoso. The news comes after a long period of uncertainty about Ryan’s future with Reynoso, who coached Ryan Garcia for several years before they split in 2022.

In a post shared by Ring Magazine, “Ryan Garcia’s father Henry Garcia has stated that Garcia has now reunited with Canelo Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso: “Canelo and Ryan worked everything out, it was a misunderstanding. Everything’s back to the way it was, we’re good.” [@MillCityBoxing],” the caption read. The Ring Magazine then declared that “Ryan Garcia’s father has said Garcia will return to training with Eddy Reynoso for his next fight.”

For those who don’t remember, the split between Ryan Garcia and Eddy Reynoso happened before the 2022 fight against Emmanuel Tagoe, where Ryan Garcia dominated and secured a second-round knockout. After that victory, King Ry moved away from Reynoso and started working with Joe Goossen. The reason? To explain it, in an interview with talkSPORT, Ryan Garcia revealed that it all started when Reynoso only showed up two weeks before his bout against Francisco Fonseca. And this was when King Ry asked his manager for the first time to get him a new coach.

However, things have clearly changed since his knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in 2023. Following that defeat, rumors started swirling that Garcia was once again training with Reynoso. But that was not true. That’s because Ryan Garcia trained and fought 2 matches, one with Oscar Duarte Jurado and the other one, the infamous April fight against ‘The Dream’ both under coach, Derrick James.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Ryan Garcia's reunion with Eddy Reynoso finally lead him to triumph over Devin Haney?

Have an interesting take?

But now it seems like Garcia’s return to Reynoso’s camp is real, with Henry Garcia confirming it. But do you know who else supported and was in favor of Ryan Garcia in making this decision? It was none other than Canelo Alvarez. They were training under the same coach and Eddy had been training Canelo since he turned pro in 15 years. How did Canelo help him? Let’s find out.

Canelo Alvarez for the support and for clearing misunderstanding

The former pound-for-pound king has always had a close relationship with Garcia, and he has been vocal about his support for King Ry’s career. Canelo only questioned Ryan Garcia when he decided to leave Eddy, his long-time coach. “If you’re disciplined, if you have the time to put in the gym and train, Eddy is always gonna be there,” the Mexican champion stated. This enraged the 26-year-old who later took to X and stated, “Canelo doesn’t know the facts.”

However, it didn’t take much longer to settle things between the gym buddies. In the lead-up to Garcia’s highly anticipated fight with Devin Haney, Canelo had expressed concern about his young friend’s behavior. “My mind is going to say ‘Help Ryan,’” Canelo said during an interview with talkSPORT, adding that “He (Ryan Garcia) needs to have a good person, good people around him. His goal is to take it easy, slow down.”

Even before Ryan parted ways with Reynoso, Canelo had made it clear that, “He said he wants more time, right? Eddy has all the time for him. He was here in Christmas, New Year, everything for him (Ryan Garcia) when he fought Luke Campbell.” Canelo said that to make sure Eddy had time for the 26-year-old, and Ryan didn’t make the right decision to leave Eddy.

Not just that. Canelo’s concerns only deepened when Garcia took a whole year off after winning the WBC Interim World Light title in a knockout victory against Luke Campbell in 2021. He expressed, “We always remind him as a team to come to the gym to train, and to learn because you need to be in the gym.”

After Garcia’s loss to Gervonta Davis, Canelo predicted the outcome and encouraged Ryan to come back under Reynoso’s tutelage. It’s clear that Canelo’s influence played a major role in helping Ryan find his way back to one of the best trainers in boxing.

With the misunderstanding between Ryan Garcia and Eddy Reynoso now resolved, the future looks bright for the young boxer. As Ryan Garcia prepares for his next challenge, the question remains: Will the pairing of Garcia and Reynoso lead to the victory that propels him to the top of the lightweight division? Will Ryan Garcia’s return to Eddy Reynoso’s camp make the difference in his career? Do you believe Garcia can beat Devin Haney if they finally meet in the ring?
